Red star is peeking from box but you cant actually open it nor loot it.

Hi, thanks for the report. Known, very high priority, you can expect a fix shortly (can't give accurate ETA due to NDA on patch date releases).
The "workaround" if you can call it that, is to die in the mission and do Ranger's story once it's fixed :( Alternatively you could try what CatBegemot said.

Same issue on PS5

I managed to get results by crouching in front of the box and shooting the lock/shooting the gemstone out of the box repeatedly with a Vintovka U

EDIT: The gemstone freaked out and glitched out of the box, but eventually the box itself opened and although the gem was missing, the prompt to pick up the gem was there and it triggered the flag to escape the bunker.

A way to just opt out of those story missions once in them seems like an obvious option to have as well.

You can just... Die, you know, that's a very easy opt out :D

gee, thanks for that high level help right there.

or there could just... be a "go back to main menu" button. that's an even easier one

You asked for an opt out, it's not like it takes 5 seconds to grenade yourself or get killed by an enemy, I'm really not sure what the problem is, genuinely sounds somewhat pedantic :/

The real problem is, y'know, losing the character on that run. "Just die!" is really not the great advice you think it is.

They're not being pedantic, and if anything, it seems like you're not concerned enough.

We players understand we're playing a roguelite and that losing characters is a natural result of bad luck or poor skills; but if it's the result of bugs and glitches, then it becomes frustrated. It is out of our hands, and so it's not just "aw, guess I got bad luck".. It quickly becomes a feeling of "wow, this game is bad."

If something is truly bugged and there's currently no properly fix, it would be a good idea to temporarily add a 'return to campaign menu' button as a hotfix until the real problem is solved.

tl;dr
Losses are acceptable if the result of normal gameplay, it is not acceptable if it's the result of bugs.

... And? There are so many other characters to use and if your whole campaign is stuck on that mission it's WAY better to just lose a character which would be stuck *anyway* even if you did not start the mission in the first place.

Lol, glad you clearly weren't here when Wiz's mission softlocked whole campaign and we didn't have restart campaign in options. Then you would have had a real reason to complain so much.

Wow, you really missed the point, did you not? It's not about the specific character being lost, it's about having to lose a character when there should be a better alternative. This could just as easily be a different glitch but with Baker instead and then it's time to say goodbye to your campaign because of something that should never have happened.

...Yes, I probably would have filed bug reports for that. This isn't exactly something to brag about. Fixing that should've been priority one and I'm glad to hear this is no longer an issue.

Frankly, the game has a lot of bugs and glitches still, and I still have faith the devs will fix it, but.. if you're actually a representative of the game developers, you are honestly not a good spokesperson and are actively damaging the image of the game company.

You don't have to bow to every whim of every player, but you're actively talking people down who just want to play the game and have fun. Frankly, it strongly feels like you're a troll, rather than actually trying to be helpful.

I jumped on the table, looking the box from above and smacked it and shot it. After a while I was able to open the box and grab the gem
