But this game it us alot easyer then payday2.
But...there is a persistent boss level (SP only) and account level (both MP and SP). Boss level earns you entourage bonus cards for the campaign, so you can do better next run.
Account level unlocks unlock characters, weapons, equipment, weapon skins and boss appearances. After unlocking they require a certain amount of cash to acquire. Some boss appearances unlock after completing x amount of campaign runs.
Hope this helps.
I think it's mostly to grind upgrades, perks, weapons, equipment, characters and boss appearances. So you can create a badass team.
Personally I enjoy the RNG nature of the campaign more.
The level grind isnt that bad but it doesnt really have endgame. There is nothing like the Infamy levels from pd2.
