But the playerbase is divided between the singleplayer campaign, and the multiplayer stuff. Right now because of the halloween gamemode, there are more players in multiplayer, and just overall.
The game is still being supported and the developers have plans for 2025 for new characters, weapons, tools, and heists.
Completely agree with this take, the game has offline single player content(which is also the best part in my opinion) so won't really "die" even if it loses players, always tiring to see these posts everywhere-_-
The game is also still actively being developed which there is pretty clear evidence of by looking at the patch history and roadmap.
Personally I think the game is a lot of fun although would ideally like to see more mission types/content overall. I was surprised how much I liked the new wave defense mode and think it's a great addition although think the multiplayer side of things could certainly use some love as it's a bit shallow compared to singleplayer experience in my view.
so its dead
If you want to directly jump into heists then the MP mode is for you. If you want a narrative driven story with a resource managing territory control mode with heists, then you got the campaign. Playing either will level up your account and you will make progress and unlock things for both gamemodes.
I personally want another big campaign expansion like Gold Cup or Cagnali's Orders was, no confirmation on that yet, but we are getting more heists for multiplayer in 2025, so the game is not yet dead. Up to you how you percieve this situation.
Go to the Sessions tab and look for a lobby with
Good ping > Prefered difficulty > Player Count > Heist played
Don't be picky, we got 3 digit numbers at most times, there are lobbies for you to join but you gotta take what you have, every time I play I'm able to find people on Expert, doing one of the big heists or Rockay Rumble
meaning as you complete runs you get permanent bonuses, making future runs easier
as for payday being more fun...debatable
both games are focusing on diffrent things
