It has heists and in my opinion they are better (except a few) but you also have the turf war and story missions that are quite different to anything in PD2.
Overall, i think it is a decent game, performance is good for me.
getting a lobby to fill up depends on the time and possible a little voodoo magic.
one moment the lobby fills up in a minute or 2, at other times i can play a 2 hour session and don't see anyone.
I saw those too in the description. So there is some sort of tycoon/sim elements on this? Like, running your criminal enterprise and whatnot?
The main campaign (single player roguelite) goes a little like this :
you are presented with a map, divided into territories.
you have your resources in the form of soldiers and money and you take turns (days) against the other gangs and the investigation (think of it as a timer).
you try to conquer to whole map before the investigation reaches 100% by taking turf from the other gangs while defending your own.(spend soldiers)
your crew members can do a single mission per turn and then they need to rest, the boss can do 2.
The money you earn is used to buy equipment, hire crew members, fund heists and deal with random events
you gain XP to unlock perks that carry over to your next run, a little bit of failing upwards if you will.
i probably forgot something but that's more or less how the main campaign works.
This is not Payday. It does not handle like a payday. It has no common ground and can laugh at itself. The characters and timeframe of this game is light hearted with a lovable bunch of criminals making it big in the neon dripped 80's. PD2 was *Le elite gang talk to shady faceman but ALIENS* Nah. You cannot compare the two.
Sorry, My FAVORITE mechanic in this game, Being able to put your gun AWAY if the job has not gone loud. You go loud in Pd2, ain't no going back.
The recent $15 sale with all dlc included definitely help bridge the gap between games and there are some unique elements that make it stand out like the Single player roguelike or the ability to carry multiple bags and holster your weapons but it's a worse game overall. The game could have been a lot better if they didn't spend so much budget on celebrities
But CB is definitely better than PD3.
And unlike Payday, this game has dozens of gamebreaking bugs. Like, unable to finish a mission kind of bugs, softlocks. Mostly in multiplayer.
Crime Boss is a broken mess, it should be a dead game by now, but it's not, against all odds.
CB has a better developer
CB is Mechanically better than PD2
CB's heists are worse than PD2 (though CB has level generation)
CB's animations are better than PD2
CB's AI is worse than PD2
CB's multiplayer is worse than PD2
CB has worse performance (though 10 years newer than PD2)
CB has less content than PD2 (though 10 years newer than PD2)
Just buy it and see for yourself, it is cheap as ♥♥♥♥.
