Weapon customisation is limited to applying skins. You can get attachments but they are preset and can only be obtained by unlocking an entirely separate variant of that gun.
So a basic "TIMM" M4 (not AR15 "chopper") is blue. But an M4 with a reflex is labeled as TIMM M4 R and has higher, "pink" tier and better stats, like accuracy.
It's strictly tied to progression. I know it might be a letdown to a PAYDAY fan.
But it actually "works" for this game, I'm afraid, despite being a simplier system.
