QUESTION - what online structure does the game use?
Is it official servers only - or maybe it allows for dedicated servers or even LAN?

will it use Steamworks?

I would like to know before purchase if I buy a game that has expiration date on it or it has some time-proof means to play it

It uses Epic Online Services for P2P matchmaking, as confirmed by the 505 community manager in my thread.

It also has an offline mode, even if there wasn't enough players you could still play it

To confirm again, you DO NOT need to have an Epic Games account to play Crime Boss: Rockay City on Steam.

offline mode is always appreciated and is good enough to buy 1 copy

but I am looking in such games to buy 2 or 3 copies to play with my brothers

we have encountered many games by now - where you cannot play online anymore because the official servers are closed down - and developer left no means to play it otherwise

so I am now doing a research before I buy cause when we play a game and we like it - we could end up going back to it even 20 years after release - so no interest in games with expiration date on their features

Yes, I know, you've belabored that point twice now.
But neither I nor the OP here were talking about Epic accounts, merely the (in this case Abysmal and failure prone) infrastructure...

So since this is a "Live Service" game, does that mean it will shut down eventually and I won't be able to play it? I don't care if it's not planned for decades from now or not planned at all, I just want to know if it's a possibility at all before I throw money at business practices I don't agree with.

Pretty sure p2p.

You can play it offline too. Tested.

Yes, it’s a live service game and will be shut down on Feb. 30, 2025. You can move on now.
