FTL travel.
So we have FTL drives.... why are we still restricted to the solar system?

They don't really explain the majority of the technology. I'm just supposed to buy that we have "anti-gravity grenades" and FTL drives, just at face value? I'd like them to at least try to explain how the science works in this science-fiction game.

I haven't played the campaign yet, but even if you were to go 2x the speed of light, the closest star would be 2 years away....one way. I don't know how fast their FTL ships are, but I'm sure it's probably not star trek style speeds.

Fair enough. I still think colonies would have been estabilished in Alpha Centauri. But still, couldn't they give us a half-assed explaination of "dark matter drives" or something.

None of technology is given psuedo-science explanations. That's the fun part about sci-fi. You can't just leave that out.

Matter of fact what year is this game set in? I can't find that info anywhere?

I'm not sure if it counts as spoilers, but even short range hops put the Ret under serious hull stress. Those last how long? 20 seconds tops? You're asking a ship to do that for 4+ years straight just to get to Alpha Centauri. That doesn't even account for serious travel drift that happens over relatively short astronomical distances.

Even given what little context we have for the tech, it's just not feasible to make jumps out past the Kuiper Belt.

again, I don't know if they're 'dark matter' drives, but considering they have blackhole generator weapons, I'd assume the power sources are black holes, not dark matter. If you google, a black hole generator is actually very much a reality, and it's basically 100% conversion rate....you just pour in matter in a steady stream, and the black hole will radiate huge sums of energy.....and we're not talking space black holes, we're talking very small sized black holes, like the size of a marble.
