I had this problem. I deleted files in C:\Users\*user*\AppData\Local\AMD\DxCache and files in \Steam games\steamapps\common\Call of Duty - Infinite Warfare\main . You might want to verify cache after that. I'm not sure which of these things fixed it, but it works now.

I found a fix for this on my system (AMD, but would imagine this would work for NVidia as well).

Windows 10 x64
i7 6700K 4.0GHz
Sapphire R9 390X 8GB (Latest drivers / 16.11.3)
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3200
DirectX 12 installed

I did like others and deleted DxCache and temp files in "\main:"

C:\Users\*user*\AppData\Local\AMD\DxCache
Call of Duty - Infinite Warfare\main

But this didn't fix the crash to desktop with "DirectX has encountered blah blah blah."

What did fix it for me was using Radeon Settings to create a profile for the game by going to Radeon Settings > Gaming > Add > iw7_ship.exe >

Anti-aliasing Mode > Use app settings
Anti-aliasing Method > Supersampling
Morphological Filtering > ON
Anisotropic Filtering Mode > ON
Anisotropic Filtering Level > x16 (or whatever your system can handle)
Texture Filtering Quality > High
Surface Format Optimization > ON
Waiting for Vertical Refresh > Off, unless app specifies
Shader Cache > AMD optimized (I think this and Anistropic Filtering is what fixed it)
Tessellation Mode > AMD optimized
Frame Rate Target Control > Disabled

Somehow, by forcing graphics settings of Infinite Warfare via Radeon Settings, it's fixed the DirectX crash. I played through the entire campaign without a single crash. :steamhappy:
