Disc read error after update

I wanted to play COD IW today and noticed the game installed an update prior to playing. The main menu in the game loaded fine but when I tried to resume my campaign, the game errored out with the following message Disc Read Error "common_sp". I have to press the reset button on my PC at this point as I am not able to close the game or regain my windows desktop. Here are my specs:

AMD FX 8350
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050ti
16GB ram
Windows 10 64-bit

The game ran flawlessly the last time I played. Was wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue?

The disc read errors are usually caused by the patching/updating process going wrong somewhere along the way. Just use the "verify integrity of game cache" in the game's properties under the Steam Library...it'll find the bad/missing files you have and redownload what it needs.

That should fix this issue I believe.

I've experienced this in 2025 lol I was playing the level when your ship is under attack after landing the game glitches out then there a disk read error I think you'll have start fresh to make sure it's fine files may be corrupted or damaged
