To everyone having launch issue

Hello everyone,

If you experience any launch issue, please try to do the following:
Remove the folder: '%appdata%/../Local/Game Character Hub' and try to restart the program.

If the problem persists, could you please do the following?

1. Download Process Manager (32 bit version): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
   
2. Add a filter on the Process Name (set it to 'GameCharacterHub.exe') to track down everything that GCH is doing.
   
3. Then try to launch GCH.
   
4. ProcessMonitor will have displayed events and everything that GCH is doing.
   
5. Save the events 'File > Save' and send me the PML files. You can send it to me at [e-mail]

And last but not least, send me a crash report too (a nfo file). This page describes how to do it: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1376-WTZN-9132

This will help me diagnose what's the problem.

News: A patch has been released. This adds the GameCharacterHub_without_steam.exe and GameCharacterHub_no_drm.exe in GCH installation directory.

The former is a version that is not linked with Steam (hence no workshop for this version). The latter does not have DRM wrapped (I.e. the exe file is not modified by Steam), but check with the Steam client that you own a license.

Could you please test with these two exe files and see of at least one is running? With a little luck, it's only Steam DRM that breaks the exe on some systems.

not working for me either, getting quite pissed with it, been trying for a few months (on and off) to get it to work, followed every step multiple times and still no go, thinking of moving on to another program to make sprites with.

Same here. I tried uninstalling the game, deleting the Appdata file, installing and launching the game again but nothing worked. It doesn't even show in Windows task Manager nor in Process Explorer and just doesn't open at all.

I found out if you put the non steam one in the Character Creator Hub folder in steamapps' common folder, the program will work.

What do you mean the non steam one? Do I have to donload it from the site?

I've done everything that the forums have been suggesting, but still am unable to launch it.
There is the odd time that it will say it's already launched, but it hasn't.

Okay i just got the game about 1/2 hour ago and its not working on my computers Host OS windows 7 but its works if i run it within a virtual machine on windows 8.1 And dose not work on a virtual machine with windows 7 Pro (both virtual machines are nearly new installs)

I'm sorry for all those launch issues. It's really annoying me that you can't enjoy GCH while you paid for it. I would be really pissed if I were you. Be ensured that I do test GCH before releasing, and on several computers with different OS versions and I have never had any trouble launching them. In the next days I'll focus on those launching issues very seriously. I have some troubleshooting ideas that I need to explore.

@deewaes: If GameCharacterHub_no_drm.exe fails to launch in your Windows 7 Pro Virtual Machine as well, I would be really interested in having a look at your VM. Would it be possible for you to send me an image your virtual machine (if your using virtual box). You can delete your personal files before sending to me, I only care about GCH files and the system environment. From the VM I could run a debugger and see what GCH doesn't like.

VM images tends to be quite big. You may upload it on any cloud service and share it with me if you don't mind. Remember to test with GameCharacterHub_no_drm.exe before. Great thanks! I could finally get my hand on a system where GCH doesn't run, and that would be of great help!

i got some issues with my GCH. i tried to open it from steam and it sent me an error message saying this. Game CHaracter Hub failed to start (Error code 81). i also tried to open it from it's folder and still not going in, and tried GCH_without_steam and it does the same but GCH_no_drm works. how i can fix the steam,exe and without steam.exe so that they could work?

I'm really glad to hear that GCH_no_drm works! (at least on your computer :p)

You don't need to fix those 2 exe to enjoy GCH. GCH_no_drm offers the exact same features as GCH.exe (it also has the workshop, while GCH_without_steam doesn't). Simply rename GCH_no_drm to GameCharacterHub.exe and that will do the trick :)

Without steam version works for me, however no drm does not. Would be happy to send you information, but I am computer stupid, and have no idea what a virtual box is :(. If someone can send me instructions, I would be happy to forward any information that would be helpful to you. Thanks so much for the very quick update :)

the without_steam.exe one works on my host OS and on the Virtual windows 7 pro.
Sadly i use VMware Workstation and so far i can't find a way to export it so it will work in virtual box, But if you (or someone) know a way that would be great.

I got it (just had to make a new VM and load the Virtual Hard Drive)
So i'll upload it to onedrive and send you a link when its done and it will take a bit because i do not have the best internet. (i'll be using 7zip)

Sad that it doesn't work. Don't worry about virtual box. Your computer is able to emulate another compute (called a virtual machine). The point is that the virtual machine may have a different OS, and has a clean installation. Virtual box is a program that allows you to use virtual machines.
