we will probably never see a save editor, on pc people seem to prefer cheat engine. For some reason people like Hexerin consider a save editor the same as a trainer when its not.
A save editor can adjust inventory, level etc. at any point of the game. a trainer needs to hack memory addresses live and is much less user friendly to use. Often released trainers do not have the ability to adjust everything, they tend to stick to the mainstream stuff such as high exp/money gains and invincibility. Also I would consider using a save editor safer than something thats watching your pc memory.
Not to mention a trainer is more of a hackish way of changing a game vs a patch or modified save file.
e.g. PC version of FF7, how do you revive aerith with a cheat engine table? vs in a save editor just popping her back in the party :)

When I use cheat engine to change the "Name" "Type" and "modifier" it only shows Lightning in the menus, but out of the menu you are a clone of the unswapped character and have no battle model. (No freezes for some reason o_O)
