Basically higher shadow resolution means higher quality shadows and of course a larger load on your gpu.

The resolution of the shadows that are casted in the environment, including off your character. The higher the resolution, more impact on GPU usage and performance.

To what degree, I don't know.

It completely kills my framerate if I turn it all the way up. It also looks horrible at the highest setting. The shadows are too sharp. Real shadows don't look like that.

so what would be the "recommended" shadow resolution for lets say 1280x720 display resolution ? I am using the Nvidia 660 GTX-Ti with 2GB V-Ram so I guess it should be decent enough to play this, right ? :/

What's optimal Shadow Res for 1920x1080 then? Tried 4k and 8k and honestly cannot see any difference.

Your main resolution doesn't matter too much when it comes to shadows, you can still use 8k shadows at 1080p and notice a big difference compared to lower settings.

Thanks. But it's strange. I'm testing it right now and it's no difference visually (or at least it's not significant) when im testing it on 4k shadows/4xMSAA or maxed out to 8k shadows/16xMSAA. Even framerate is EXACTLY the same (60 most of the time with some downs at some moments)
I was sure that maxed out settings will affect FPS but its not and most strange that picture looks the same for me.
I'm curious how's original FF13 perfomance after today's patch but uninstalled it some time ago.
