Maybe, with the difficulty mod (i think i saw it somewhere on the board) it may be a bit more interesting, though some of the DLC Battles really push your ability to really master the Battle System.
Edited the typo in the other post.
But that's what I don't like about stagger, you HAVE to stagger in order to beat some bosses or even tougher monsters. Comes down to requiring a COM/RAV which sucks. What happened to have multiple classes that can do damage, not just two.
Commando: Raw physical damage after Stagger, incapacitates enemies with Launch and other Stagger related abilities
Ravager: Weakness exploitation and Meter Building
Saboteur Debuffing (a lot more important if compared with every other FF, maybe excluding some FFXII cases)
Synergist: Buffing (not as important as SAB, but more efficient if compared to other FF)
Sentinel: Tanking and Distracting enemies.
This obviously has a consequence: you have (like it or not, the game works this way) to use the right jobs at the right time.
BTW, You know you can also stagger with Saboteurs, yes? It's a bit longer, but doable.
To be honest, i really like a good Job System. But, in EVERY single game with a Job System i played, there was that one Job (or two classes) or that mix of Job/Secondary Job that caused EVERY OTHER single Class and ability irrelevant (i'm talking about a Normal Playthrough, not about a LLG, Speedrun or similar, that would be another different discussion).
FFIII: In both versions Ninjas/Sages if you don't want to level to 99, if not, Onion Knight is simply ridicolous
FFV: Freelancer with Dual Wield + Rapidfire or the Caster equivalent, Mime with Dualcast, White and Black/Summon
FFX-2: Kinda like FFIII: Alchemist/Gunner+Catnip or if you take your time, Mascot.
FFXII International: Monk, Samurai and Archer are simply broken.
And don't let me even start about the Tactics games because well... i would end up writing a Wall of Text.
Indeed. But i focus just on getting 5 Stars on the Bosses, not so much on normal Enemies.
Sigh, i have yet to finish to get 5 Stars in the Coloseum.
For the jRPGs my favorite one is Shadow Hearts, previous FF games were cool as well.
Or Las Remnant (which is basically a Final Fantasy game anyway, just without the title for some odd reason).
edit: Turns out I just wrote that any system would be better. Well, kinda true.
If you don't like the combat system, why did you buy the sequel?
Probably because a lot of people (at the time) praised XIII-2 for having a better Battle System (it doesn't), or maybe he simply wanted to continue the story.
I for one "hate" XIII-2 Battle System. I leveled other Jobs just to get the Stat Bonuses. Didn't really care about buff and debuffs becase they have been nerfed hard and the main story (and something like 95% of the Side Quest Bosses) doesn't really push the strategy. Just the Coliseum does. And only from PuPu and onwards.
I like the series as a whole, but so far I liked FF8 the most. Enjoyed the story, characters, graphics and combat.
The pad is not that MUCH better, because I got used to PS3 style and it uses XBOX style which I find annoying. I could switch the controlls using logitech app or keyboard using Razer app but I got lazy and got used to the new pad layout.
I still left the keyboard prompts (memorized already) in-game as they are less confusing to me than pad prompts... I now made it very confusing, but it works best for me. Still a mess...
Only thing that would be a problem is Xbox360 vs PS3 gamepad style but that's mostly on you for not playing on both of them before on other games.
When I first started to play on xbox gamepad two things throw me off the balance were sticks positions and X not in same position but same color blue but after playing longer it becomes natural.
Esc key bind nothing can be done other then whats already been done but I understand the annoying part about backspace that would be strange key to bind for jump.
You need to stop using mouse that instant.
No issues on gamepad other than just getting used to different layout. It actually annoys me on all PC games I try to use gamepad with. Other than PSCSX2 - PS2 game emulator. I originally bought the gamepad just for emulation in the first place anyway.
