Does ff13 have a co-op mode?
Is there any benefit in playing online? Is there a real time multiplyer co op mode? If there is , at what times is such a co op usable ? like in specific missions only or in free roaming only ?

The majority of FF games are single player, with the below exceptions:

Final fantasy XV is a single player game with a component where you can play online (never played the online bit mind). - This is possibly the one that you are thinking about with regard to online).

Final fantasy XI and XIV are full blown MMORPGs (subscription based) - XIV is still ongoing and content being developed for.#

There are a few other "spin-off" games too such as FFVII crisis core, world of final fantasy although I know little about them
