In truth the coliseum is all monster really...
Sometimes you may wanna equip some stuff to noel and serah, maybe something for defense...
But when it comes to strategy and winning, I have a few suggestions. One major one if you want to destroy gilgamesh and recruit him... Beat the lightning story DLC, her commando is easily the most powerful in the game and can even do a million damage (minus 1).
Also use cloudburst and goblin chief, silver choco and yak imo don't push the buffs you need. Gob chief is great for sentinel, and cloudburst is a good ravager/synergist hybrid.
Ravagers are also kinda essential in the coliseum since you wanna raise that stagger bar as high as possible.
There's different strategies with every character, I dunno which ones you wanna face... But there's easy strategies with all of them. I've beaten and recruited everyone in the coliseum and its really not hard at all you just gotta follow a script. Cloudburst, gob chief, and commando lightning/chichu/twilight odin, are all great commandos but commando light from the lightning story DLC (not ravager) will just destroy.
Also infusion isn't hard ya just gotta do some monster hunting and follow this order.
For commando light
Infuse in this order:
01) Lv. 04 Gancanagh Ace <-- Lv. 01 Gancanagh
02) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 04 Gancanagh Ace
03) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 02 Chunerpeton
04) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 19 Fencer
05) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 02 Ceratoraptor
06) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 30 Pink Lily
07) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 01 Yeoman
08) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 54 Forked Cat
09) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 24 Tonberry
10) Lv. 13 Lightning <-- Lv. 30 Frag Leech (learn Powerchain)
Additional Abilities:
Jeopardize--------------: Infuse 48 levels worth of RAV monsters
For gob chief
Infuse in this order:
01) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 20 Lancer (learn Challenge)
02) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 20 Lancer (learn Deathward)
03) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 33 Caterchipillar
04) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 45 Sahagin Prince
05) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 72 Necrosis
06) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 23 Mewmao
07) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 66 Green Chocobo (learn Reprieve)
08) Lv. 40 Goblin Chieftain <-- Lv. 99 Flandit
And cloudburst
Infuse in this order:
01) Lv. 40 Cloudburst <-- Lv. 54 Forked Cat
02) Lv. 40 Cloudburst <-- Lv. 30 Frag Leech
03) Lv. 40 Cloudburst <-- Lv. 19 Fencer (learn Fearsiphon)
04) Lv. 40 Cloudburst <-- Lv. 22 Tonberry
05) Lv. 40 Cloudburst <-- Lv. 01 Gancanagh
06) Lv. 40 Cloudburst <-- Lv. 30 Pink Lily (learn Fira, Thundara)
07) Lv. 40 Cloudburst <-- Lv. 01 Yeoman
Additional Abilities:
Fire, Blizzard, Thunder-: Lv. 15 Debris or Lv. 36 Albino Lobo or
Lv. 01 Apotamkin or Lv. 01 Pink Lily
Blizzara----------------: Lv. 01 Cryohedron
Firaga------------------: Lv. 15 Grenade or Lv. 15 Bomb
Thundaga----------------: Lv. 15 Circuitron
Vigor-------------------: Infuse 46 levels worth of COM monsters
While infusing is a somewhat complicating process, sadly it has to be done in order to push their performance and make coliseum runs easy, or you'll just be grinding your wheels with no progress. I highly advice infusing the exact way these orders are, if not it could be a lot harder.
Its really not hard tho, a lot of these monsters can be found easily, you can even check the bestiary to find out their locations. There's also special tricks to find certain ones, so if you need more advice feel free to post. I happen to know all the good spots for finding monsters, and oddly enough... Just cuz it says a monsters somewhere, dont always mean it will appear there, sometimes you have to go over certain spots.
For example, forked cat can be hard to find in oerba 400, but if you go up and down a stair area, they appear 100% of the time.
Not hard to kill the big guy tho, just hit him with a physical attack then switch to rav/rav/rav and staggering him quickly and he dies, magic or physical dont matter just need that first physical attack to make the magic stick. Also take out the troopers fast as well cuz they heal nabat, the pumas are kinda tough and you can let them slide sometimes but they do allow nabaat to stun when she absorbs them so its a good idea to have gob chief and noel/serah sporting a tank setup when she does her big move.
Lemme know if you're having trouble with nabat.
I guess Chichu is a bit inferior to Lightning in commando at the coliseum. used to love the little guy for his damage dealing capabilities. well I am getting a better deal with lightning and hey its her so I guess I will stick with her. After finishing this DLC, I chilled out a little with the poker game in the Sazh DLC. Next stop is Nabat in coliseum. after tht I am following ur strategy of monster hunting and completing the coliseum. I really don't want those monster crystals from the coliseum since they serve no purpose to the main game and there's no achievement or trophy for them. I have already done 100% of the game and wht I am gonna do with them after fighting them.
One negative of this game to me, was making lightning so powerful that none of the other new characters in the DLC mattered much. Snows pretty much a useless rock, and gilgamesh, omega and others still can't hang with lightning. Altho it does give you something to do, as you can even get the rare mog throw monsters from valfdor in case you missed them or infused them.
Only monsters in the game you can really miss out on or mess up for good is commando light/sazh, since you only get both once.
I would of disliked this game a lot more without the DLC tho... The monsters in the pre DLC game are kinda lame. I like cactuars and chocobos but not much else... Really I'd be more interested in a game like 13-2 where you could get dozens and dozens of FF heros from past games instead of monsters. And some challenging extra bosses like 13-2's coliseum. I think overal with 13-2 they were on the right track and had some good ideas it just could of been handled better.
Sure gob chiefs probably better than cloud for the tanking which you'll need specially against snow and jihl.
Additional abilities are basically like abilities that dont copy over the passive abilities you get from following the steps. Basically you infuse say... A lvl 1 cryohedron to cloudburst, you get to choose a magic move to teach him from cryohedron (blizzara).
With light its different tho, instead of a magic move you can pick, you automatically get a passive for infusing 48 lvls worth of ravager monsters (use low lvl common ravagers with no abilities that can be passed on) because if you use a ravager some might have a skill that might copy over your infused ones so be careful. Just dont ever infuse a ravager to commando light unless its not teaching her any abilities. Because jeopardize wont unlock until the 48th lvl of ravager monsters is consumed. It messed me up on a few old builds like ravager lightning when i did this because I didnt notice the skills that the ravager monsters were copying over, so be careful which ravagers you feed light.
Been working on this hunk of cold steel.

Nothing on commando light, but he's a ton of fun love his attack speed and laser noises, blitz flamethrower is also cool. Really one of my fav FF's for the replay.. Altho I really wish they'd given uncapped damage to every DLC character not just commando light. Seems stupid to me, that she's the only one who can do a million...
So in LR, I Finished all 5 main story quests and there r some few side quest headache monsters which r pretty strong like a reaver and tht chaos infused chocobo eater which I am gonna take on in canopus farm. My other objective is also to unlock the extra day for tht last one standing quest and I think I have done enough sidequests to unlock it. Still I can't take on a reaver and god I am worried how I am gonna do tht extra day last one monster dungeon and fight Bhunivelze whom many refer to as the toughest boss in ffxiii series. One more problem I am facing is the ATB gauge management. While fighting a reaver or a similar monster of his caliber like the earth eater, and Aeronite I finish up all of my gauge with nothing left to continue the chain and then few attacks on me and I am dead. I can do a perfect gaurd not so good at it, let's say average but fails cuz of nothing in the gauge. I doubt wether my schemata set well enough or just plain weak. Anyways will talk abt this game after completing ffxiii-2.
Yea don't worry to much about LR's its not that hard, I found 13-2 to be way more complicating and the coliseum was far more challenging than bhunivelze. Gilgamesh makes Bhun look like a child imo, so does snow (coliseum snow).
In LR's just focus on doing as many quests as possible, dont focus on killing all the last ones in the first game, maybe the 2nd or 3rd playthrough. It took me 3 playthroughs to beat Bhun plus on normal. Easy mode without plus he was nothing... Well he beat me a few times but still not hard.
Lotta what people say online is hype, I notice... People are really saying bhun is the hardest FF boss lol? I mean... I felt like 8 had way harder bosses, in 7 ruby was more tricky imo.
The optional boss in LR's is also a bit harder than Bhun, hell his last form all you gotta do to bhun is stagger him once and he dies usually. He's very easy.
I didn't need any walkthroughs for LR's except for the most cryptic quests, and nothing for the lvl up system. LR's is a casual easy game, 13-2 is cryptic as hell and never holds your hand through anything lol, DLC wise anyway. I didn't find LR's hard at all, just stick with it, eventually you'll be so powerful you'll kill reavers in a couple of hits.
