Any Actual Towns ..or Roaming World ?
FF 13 to me and as other players also mentioned in forums/ videos ,was very lineaur .. it was just a path of endless ruins, roads .. that you fought your way through . with no towns and no world map to explore .

But when I researched this game FF13-2 , most of the videos and reviews , said they pulled a total 360 with this game and added these elements that was missing in the original FF13 .

Because basically the past game kind of sucked .

But to be honest .. I am still feeling the same way about this edition. I am not far into the game , about 15 hours . But I still feel its a lineaur path similiar to FF 13 with ruins and dark desolant places ,camps or posts with fighting .

I have not seen a actual open world yet , except for time travel portal gates.

I was thinking they went back to the way FF games use to be with this game , FF7, FF9 with open roaming worlds , some forest areas , greenary, and also dark areas . and villages and towns and cities .

The only village I seen so far was the first village we start off in .I really enjoy in FF games when they had all the bells and whistles I am talking about .

So my question is does this change later ? Is it just the section of the game I am on at the moment ?

Or does it still continue to follow this lineaur pattern ?

Any feedback be great !!

Thanks .

Seems your idea of nonlinearity is the oldschool top down adventure world maps, no this game doesn't have those. There is a large city also where depending on the year visit has a bit of goofing around.

yeah I think my Jrpg days is over ..

Sorry to hear that

LOL FF7 and FF9 were not linear, you are another hateful "fan".
rbubbaray Apr 16, 2017 @ 9:10am
Farron I was saying FF9 and 7 elements was what Ive been MISSING in Jrpgs . I played both games many times , cause I loved them. They were not linear but the past few titles has been .

I am pissed off that a few review videos I watched about this game claimed they went back to the way FF7 and FF9 use to be , thats why I bought it .. but its not .

Again this is what i like , I am not saying its not a good game ,it just misses what I enjoy in games . this is why I hardly write reviews .because odds are what I say sucks about a game may not suck for other players .

Truly non linear games are very rare. Only a few open world rpgs such as Morrowind, and the latest Zelda game are the only examples that come to mind right now. Most games are still linear even if they have freedom of exploration, there is a progression curve in the games' story that must in most case be followed step by step. The presence of an overworld adventure map with random battles shouldn't be the deciding factor.

(Tho I did like FF VII adventure map too don't get me wrong)

Exacty , I agree there was always a obsticale , but they looked more open years ago .FF9 to me was a perfect example . once you did most of the progression , I rememebered flying around the world map and getting some of the best treasures and fighting optional bosses .No they were not true open world that modern day hack and slash games has . but they still had more then enter a gate , ohh its another dark area or camp , kill some mobs , go through a puzzle paradox or whatever they are called .. and enter another gate .

Chrono Trigger was my first Jrpg and still one of my favorites , which was gates and time travel , but it had small world map areas that had a cave a dungeon a few towns with inns , pubs, buildings . it breaks the game up a bit ,when you didnt feel like fighting .

To me that was one of the many elements that made Jrpgs what they are.. I wish I loved to just fight all the time , because the gaming world is full of FPS.

I havent played the game recently , So I am not very far into the game ..once I hit that main city etc , my feelings may change . I like games with tons to do , gather information from villagers , search the towns for treasure and anything I may have missed .go fishing like breath of fire had .
work on the combat system and gears , then enter the world and grind a bit .Then when you are in the mood , continue with the story .

Again I am not complaining about this game , but the resources I used to decide if this game was what i wanted . Because most did mention the fact that FF13 was not as good as other FF games and that the linear path was what turned most players off . one guy actually said .. they did a total 360 turn around of the game and made it more like a modern day FF7 FF9 feel again .and i feel he was wrong , because to me I see FF13 again ..

So thats why I made the post and asked .. because so far I felt the game was just as repetitive , as the first game .

I was pretty happy with the amount of content to do in FF XIII, in particular the endgame hunt for making the perfect party and tackling all the cieth stone missions. As such you probably won't put much weight on my thoughts.

Anyway, XIII-2 doesn't have those, but there are lots of other activities like finding sidequests (though they can be a pain to find sometimes), again with maxing out the characters, and then there is of course the hefty grind to tame pets and figure out how to assimilate their abilities in the best manner.

The PC version also includes some of the DLC (but not all, there are some not available on PC) giving you some really tricky encounters to beat at the endgame.

Yeah I will play some of it today , once I get further it should open up more things , TBH my fav part of games is at the end just before the last boss dungeon , when you do side quests and catch up with everything , yeah sometimes I use a guide for side quest to find them .

But my intentions wasnt to start or seem to be a forum about hating on games with no open worlds .lol I just basically asked if there was .But to me the mapping system in games is just as important as battles , everything is . when I said my days of jrpgs was over , it wasnt because of non open worlds , its everything that has changed , mainly the battle systems or side scrollers .I tend to only like turn based , I never played zeldas because it was hack and slash ..thats how stubborn and stuck in my ways I am .lol but I did complete over 100 jrpgs so obviously they did make what i enjoyed at one time .

I thank everyone for the Info and feedback ..

Off topic but watched some Sport beta gameplay today and it actually looks.. good. Most importantly they got meaty engine sound now, woot. Shame it will always be PS4 only in all likeliness, not getting a PS4 just for that thing.
rbubbaray Apr 17, 2017 @ 5:52pm
I hear ya The Light :)

Yeah I wont buy a modern system , they dont make enough good jrpgs anymore .

I mentioned this in another post.. But i guess its ridiculous some how because Im sure a Dev team would of done it .. But as far as I know I havent found a game like it yet ..

Picture a game like Skyrim graphic wise and world based with that modern flare , with a turn based element battle system . Morrowinds meets Final Fantasy 10 .. tell me that wouldnt rock !!

Can ya feel the luv :)

Academia 4XX has the most NPCs out of every location from my experience. There is a shop to buy things from, and there are quiz terminals to interact with, and you can also speak to several of the people.

This level captures what you may be looking for Rbubbaray.

Ill check it out thanks Logan , Right now i found a good one Legends of heroes Trials in the sky SC, I played the first one . but this is part 2 , and they release part 3 in May . It has Citys, all kind of shops , not a true open world , but it gives you that feeling by sectional maps.. great game .
rbubbaray Apr 24, 2017 @ 1:59pm
Ohh I thought that was a game .lol its the City in this game , I just goggled it ..

Thanks

Sadly those days are gone my friend.
Even FF15 is much the same.

I see they're re-releasing FF12 on PS4. That game wasn't exactly linear but if you ventured off the beaten track the difficulty stopped you from wondering too far.

If it comes out on steam give it a go.
The Characters suck, stories dull, a whole section collecting "chops" is annoying. Too much probability on monster drops and chests.

To this day i've never seen a lvl 99 red chocobo, and i spent over 24 hrs non-stop doing exactly what youtube said. (how i miss the days of being unemployed).

However the Gambit system is interesting like Materia, Some of the Marks and bosses are a good strategic challenge, Loads to do, loads to explore, And its tough. (hardest FF IMO).

EDIT - It also has the one thing FF's of late, lack. THREAT.
Good old save points, and the punishments for not saving in ages from a rare monster thats hard as nails appearing and wiping you out.
Then the realisation kicks in as you say to yourself "i haven't saved" and cup your hands round your face.

None of this autosave before a fight rubbish where you can restart free of the fear of loss of equipment, items and lvls you spent the last several hours grinding.
