Western culture is so used to overweight people that they get shocked when they an adult woman with a petite build. It's amazing the number of people who think Serah and Lightning are too skinny. Their body types are perfect.

I made a similar topic a little while ago, but...

....the creepiness factor comes in from the characters' visual designs. They made Snow so much bigger than Serah that, when the two stand next to each other, it seems like an adult and a child. If they either made Serah a little taller or Snow a little shorter, it probably wouldn't have been as weird. That, and the trenchcoat in middle of the beach with everyone else in t-shirts.
