It was a love story after all
http://www.gamecritics.com/trent-fingland/fabula-nova-feminas-final-fantasy-xiii-is-a-womens-world

I for one picked up on the romance between Fang and Vanille and found that to be stronger than the Snow-Sarah romance and the father wanting to save his son love of Sazh-Dajh. Especially at the end, I felt I knew I wasn't making the Fang-Vanille thing up. They were heavily implying Fang was the husband and Vanille was the wife.

Please don't spoil anything for me because I also saw a mild connection between Vanille and Hope. Like Vanille might actually be bisexual, but Hope was just too young. The way she somewhat teased Sazh also seemed like she was very aware of her influence sexually on men.

Lightning, while purposefully made to be asexual and non-sexy, also seemed to be lesbian. They desexualized her to the point she never even reveals her brand, because it would mean showing cleavage, but she had a blushing response to when Vanille showed her brand. The only possibly sexual response for her at all. She even ignored Snow when he had his shirt off. No love interests either. That's my only indication Lighting was meant to be a nonsexualized lesbian.

I figured out early on the story was about Vanille (and Fang) and what these two had done causing a ripple of unfortunate events in the lives of Lightning, Hope, Sahz, Serah, or Snow.

If it weren't for Vanille, Serah and Sahz's son wouldn't have been made a la'ice, which in turn wouldn't have bright Lightning and Snow into this mess, to which Hope's mother would not have died.

That navel piercing on Lighting though

Overthinking relationships intensifies.

Keep in mind, there are completely different cultures portrayed in the game. The bond between Fand and Vanille, for instance. They are the last two people alive from Gran Pulse. It makes sense for them to be so close. Plus, they kind of grew up together in the same orphanage during the War of Transgression. They're pretty much sisters.

Lightning and Hope's relationship stems from loss; Lightning believes her sister Serah is dead, and Hope knows his mother is dead. They needed each other just so they could keep moving forward.

Personally, I think Fang has a thing for Lightning. She's the only one who saw her brand, for one. Not to mention Fang likes to tease Lightning every now and again.

I forgot Lightning showed off her brand to Fang actually, but the players never get to see it. There was a bit of lesbian teasing, but Lightning aside from that blushing, showed very little "weakness" or lack of control over what she was feeling. If she was wrong, she just admitted it later. I still loved her character though.

I thought about the sister thing with Fang and Vanille too, it wasn't until a bit later in the game and the ending, where it seemed like far more than that. I don't think it was unintentional is what I'm saying.

Btw I finished the game, I just meant if you had a PS3 don't spoild XIII-2 or Lightning Returns, especially if Hope and Vanille ending up being a thing or whatever. I purposefully ignored this game planning on playing it and now they're all coming to PC.

Oddly enough I never played the game. I saw TotalBiscuit's WTF is... of XIII-2 a long time ago and the whole premise made me extremely curious. Cue an eight hour movie, some research, and more fanfiction I'm willing to admit, and here I am waiting for Square Enix to get off their lazy butts and fix the PC port so I can purchase it and finally play it.

I don't know if they will honestly. I bet the whole point of the PC version is to support their streaming service. They figured why not let us have it. Hopefully at least Lightning Returns takes advantage of PC hardware as it was pretty obvious the PS3 struggled to run that game at a good framerate.

I lold when the article accused videogame industry of actively disempowering women. Because their goals arent focused on making money, they're focused on making women suffer.

Yeah, that's just silliness. For some reason there are these guys, raised on superheroes, Mario, etc who think they need to save women. I pay them no mind. It's kind of annoying that sometimes the people who review games have less in common with the people who are the audience for the particular games they are reviewing.

It's only really bad when they don't realize that females have feelings too and if that female finds a particular game is her cup of tea, how ca you tell her what she likes or dislikes about a game?

Lightning deserves better in these sequels, not just bashing some fu**ing nutjobs and all...

I hear she never gets a love interest, which is unusual for Final Fantasy.
