How was Final Fantasy XIII recieved in Japan.
I mean in NA/EU it didnt get a positive reception from the general public and with good cause based on some directional changes for the series. Still sold well, but hey you slap Final Fantasy on anything and it will sell well. But I've always wondered how it did in Japan with the Japanese audience, not the critics or the sales figures, but the actual fan feedback and opinion. Anyone know or followed what happened over then when it came out?

It has 2 sequels for a reason.

39/40 on Famitsu - the japanese review website.

Only western RPG to score 40/40 on Famitsu was TES V : Skyrim.

From wiki:

Final Fantasy XIII sold over one million units on its first day of sale in Japan, and had sold 1.7 million copies for the PlayStation 3 in Japan by the end of 2009. Square Enix had anticipated high initial sales for the game and shipped close to two million units for its launch. The game sold more than one million copies in North America in its release month. In March 2010, Square Enix stated that Final Fantasy XIII was the fastest-selling title in the franchise's history.

Famitu gave it 10/10/8/9, but how it was received in Japan I don't know.

Come on guys, I specifically asked "not the critics or the sales figures"

This has always been a point of interest for me though, and good point, they did make two sequels so it would imply it was greatly enjoyed there.

I think like, Mario Kart for Wii U sold better than FF 13-3 in Japan.

It was recieved rather well from what I've seen. Also, in the US based on sales and the overall lasting of sales the game did rather well here as well. And no, not everything with "Final Fantasy" on it will sell well, there are quite a few final fantasy titles that sold well under expectations. Considering the game has 2 sequals that sold equally as well and they are even porting it to PC with Dive-In support on the same day shows there's a demand even 4-5 years later meaning people DID like it. It's just unfortunate that the minority is so loud at times.

While the critics may have liked it, and Square may have fudged the initial sales figures, this game did terrible as far as consumers are concerned. It is one of the few games in Japan to drop from its near 7000 yen price tag to under 500 yen within only 5 or 6 months. Most games, especially Final Fantasy ones, never drop in price to under 980 yen even years after release (and it'll take a couple of years to get to 980 yen). But with FF13, stores couldn't even give copies away.

So the response was similar to its reception in the NA/EU markets?
