Why people hate this and love X when both are linear?
As someone who finished both games (X in my Vita and XIII in my PS3) I really can't understand why people hate this game because its linearity, when FFX is also linear. I've found the combat in FF XIII much more fun, strategic and interesting. The game even opens up in chapter 11 with several quests and a semi open world. The only thing that is not linear in FFX is that you can play Blitzball whenever you want, but that's it.

I bet if FFX were released today they wouldn't have put 'linear' as a tag.

I must say I loved both games but I feel the bashing in this game is a bit unfair. It's good to see that so many people still like it, though.

Anyway, I'm so happy this is being released for PC. I must confess I bought it without even looking at the price. Please SE, now release FFXII HD!!!!

I did the same, buying it straight up. One of my favourites in the series. Will be awesome to see this in better resolution!

Personally, I liked the story / world, and could relate to the characters far more in FFX than I could with FFXIII. Tidus was a character many young boys could relate to.

FFX also had a more traditional turn-based combat system which was far more enjoyable than mashing A. (which is what you do for most the game in FFXIII)

-Side Note: I beat FFXIII twice, and consider it a good game, just not as good as my experience with FFX. I also had a better experience with Star Ocean the Last Hope which was released the same year as FFXIII (made by Square Enix)

I think the reason alot of ppl claim FFX is a "good game", or "better game" is because FFX was the gateway in to FF for alot of ppl, FFX was my first FF game anyway.. honestly It's a horrible horrible game, just, yuck, hated the characters as well... But for some reason I still liked the game^^

There's probably a number of factors. I can see the legitimate criticism for it, but most of the time I just hear crap answers like "it's not the same as the other games" or "omg this doesn't fit my preconceived notion of what a FF game should be so it sucks".

For me it was the exact opposite. I hated the cast of X (except Auron) but liked the Cast of 13 (except Snow and sometimes Vanille). But unlike some other people on the steam forums i can respect different opinions and enjoy discussing them instead of running around the Internet telling anybody FFX is the worst thing ever dont buy it. Why cant people just share different opinions without shoving them down each others throats and spreading hate?

...did you like Hope? Because I didn't see his name there. Hope is my most hated NPC in any game for a long, LONG time. I love XIII, but Hope is literally the worst thing ever.

I'm not sure xD I'm guessing nostalgia plays a part, but everyone has different opinions and feel different ways about character / story driven games.

For example, FFXIII had very poor male characters...Snow was a "tank" and just wasn't very effective in battle. Hope was a crybaby that whines too much. (I hate that kid) Fang, Lightning, and Vanielle seemed to be the best match in battle at least.
Edit: Oh yeah and that black guy Sanzh? Eh barely remember him.

FFX had a good mix of both genders who all had strengths. Tidus, Auron, Yuna, LuLu, Rikku
(I didn't like Wakka or that beast guy, but some people love Wakka lol)

Why hate Hope? I honestly think he's one of the best handled characters. Hope is by no means a "crybaby." It's not "whining" to have emotion for what the character goes through, and it's not nearly so ever-present as so many seem to think. I honestly think some people decided to hate him before he even spoke a single line of dialog. If I'm wrong so be it opinions differ, but calling someone a "crybaby" or "whiny" for reacting to what that character (and the cast) goes through is a bit much, I think.

I don't want to copy/paste what I typed in the other topic and be spammy, but the short of it is regarding this topic that FFX just did it in a way that appealed to people better, and actually had towns and neat side characters and sidequests. Backtracking is also possible in FFX, and not so for most of FFXIII.

It's okay to start out as a emotional kid, but I think there should have been a point where he grew up and stood up for himself which just never happened throughout the entire game. (Tidus was also somewhat of a "crybaby" at the beginning, but grew into a more independent character)

Because (without spoiling it for people who haven't played it on the forum) I can't stand his VA, nor can he stand his entire attitude for the majority of the game. Yes, I know he has "reasons", ( just like Luke in Tales of the Abyss..eurgh) but that doesn't make it any less annoying.
after FF9 and all of them afterwards they kept trying to re-invent the combat
alot of people did not like most of the attempts

Hope does in fact grow. The big change is when he gets Alexander. They also have a hilariously well executed scene (in my opinion) around the same time in which he subtly hints to Vanille that he has a crush on her (and he gets her good with the joke). That scene would have been so much worse if poorly executed too.

I can get how even if there are reasons some people may not like that kind of drama though. I just thought it was fairly believable how they wrote him.

13 was straightforward even with the side mission it was sorta lacking, the combat was fun but it doesn't beat 13-3 much improved Combat system. I think square should just release all 3, though 13-3 had this stupid ass timed event before (cant say spoiler) so you gotta be in a rush to do missions all day. By far 13-3 was good closure to the story, had good combat but that whole mechanic just ruined it. Played all 3 on my ps3 and will be getting all 3 on the pc just because I like square's product
