is lightning the only character u play as?

So i wanted to get this game but i am not really a big fan of female protaginist i always found it weird to play as a girl, so i am wondering if i can use a different character other than lightning?

there are multiple protaginists, but the first hour of gameplay is as Lightning

You switch between characters the first chunk of the game and then when it opens up you chose the group leader and they are the one you control.

After the first 11 chapters, the game will give you the freedom to select whom you want to play.

You can even have an all male group, if you want.

As for the first chapters, the game will switch around. Sometimes you'll HAVE to play with Lightning, sometimes with Vanille, etc.

I don't mind playing with the girls though. In fact, when a game has a sexy female cast, I usually play with an all-female group if I can. :3

ah idm it much but its just i always find it weird cuz i like imagining myself in that world while playing like "Oh snap so cool" i can't pretend i am a girl cuz its weird u feel me?

personally, i don't.
I don't have troubles with playing as female characters, and those in XIII's are really badass.

9 chapters, not 11; you get this starting in chapter 10.

On a somewhat related note, there's really nothing feminine about Lightning, both characterwise and plotwise.. You could change her sex to male, and absolutely nothing in the game would change except the pronoun used to describe the character.

She's pretty much the female version of Cloud, sans Aeris and Tifa.

I don't know about this... I never felt that Lightning was similar to Cloud in any way except superficially. As characters, Lightning was definitely nothing like Cloud. Cloud was in a lot of ways... way more reasonable than Lightning, had a clearer "reason" as to why he did certain things and whatnot. At the beginning of the game, Lightning was like a crazy extremely angry and hateful individual. I agree that I could see how she was meant to be a female Cloud from development, but she ended up nothing like him for sure...

I guess you've got it wrong, lol. Light's a girl and cannot be changed. He said that because she doesn't act so feminine, as Vanille (pretty annoying sometimes, btw), or Tifa (I guess that's what he meant).

Anyway, just accept this and enjoy the game. Don't put yourself inside the game's world, but try to feel it through the characters themselves.
