Would you all say that this is the definitive way to play now?
I have the PS3 version, which I have yet to play actually. Now that there is HD FMV mod and the FF13 fix, is the PC version the one to go with?

In general, if you can get FFXIII to run well on your PC then the PC version is the way to go. The thing that holds it back from being the definitive way to play is the extreme unpredictability of whether or not any given PC will run the game well. The mods help mitigate this but they don't solve it entirely.

Is it just a matter of specs?

Ryzen 2700x
GTX 1080
16GB RAM

Or is it like with say, Lost Planet 2, which apparently doesn't run at all on specific processors?

With every PC game, there's a chance that something, be it hardware or software, will interfere with the games, so it's basically impossible to tell just from the specs. For example, your version of Windows (and whether it's up to date or not) is also a factor in such a way that having the latest version isn't always for the best, despite what people say (Lightning Returns has an audio bug that only shows with recent versions of Win 10).

Hmm, okay then. Do the technical issues in the XIII series present themselves pretty quickly though? Let's say, before the refund window closes?

There's no broking issues unless you have AMD RX based GPU's. The game runs okay, but engine performance is broken even with very high end computers. Anyway the game never has done originally to be played at 60 FPS. There's a Steam API flood with the controller input and resolutions up to 720p are broken.

Most thinks are fixed with https://github.com/rebtd7/FF13Fix

Game runs good at 60 fps with all the enhancements and hd mods I installed. I'm only 3 hours in, but zero issues so far. I have a Ryzen 3700x, and 2070 Super and doing 2k. Just make sure you get the FF13 fix mod and your good to go.

Major issues will show up quickly. Marginal issues might not show up until you get to combat animations that really stress the system, and that's going to be well outside the refund window. An early, relatively system-intensive fight is the one with Snow leading against 2x Pantheron and 3x PSICOM Aerial Recon. Make sure to toss some Hand Grenades during that fight; if you don't see any performance drop up to that point then you've checked what you can.

You can also ask someone to share a save from Chapter 11. Archylte Steppe is one of the biggest performance killers in the game, so if the game's performance remains good in the field and in battles, you should be fine. Another possible performance killer is the first screen in Chapter 8, but you'll stay there for less than a minute in the game, so it's less of a problem.

I see. I think this is worth the plunge in the next sale then. Hopefully I'll have the same luck as all of you.

PS3 audio (from the cutscenes) has been ported to PC, they are on Nexusmods, you should check it out, alongside HD cutscenes.

What's the difference from the PS3 audio and PC? Does PS3 sound better, or more for nostalgia? I never played this on PS3. Currently on chapter 6.

If you're talking about this [www.nexusmods.com], I would say that the audio is supposed to be better. It's amazing that there all are of these great mods appearing these past few months all of a sudden. I wonder what happened.

Oh that does sound better I checked the comparison audio, but I am afraid I will break my current mods if I try to install that.

Yea I wonder if people will mod XIII-2 and LR? I was planning to play the other two after I beat this one.

What sort of mods are you using? I'd probably check in with the mod creator. They may have a solution for you. My hope is that the floodgates will open for all of the other installments as well with regards to mods. Just waiting for a sale before I jump in.

Well I am using the HD models Plus, HD textures, and HD video cutscenes. The audio mod specifically mentions using the HD cutscenes, and that it can be installed. But it recommends backing up the files, which I don't have enough hard drive space. With those mods and the base game FF13 is up to 150gb lol. I have it installed on my NVME drive which only has 250gb and windows on it. I don't really have space to backup 90gb worth of movie files since my other SSD is full of different games(FF14, and a few others). I also do not want to mess up my save game since I am already at chapter 5. When I mod a game I like to have them all installed before starting a new save. In the past playing Oblivion and later Fallout 4 my save file was corrupted after I messed with mods and I lost hours of gameplay.
