Large Address Aware patch not working?
I'm trying to do the 4GB patch and have used both the NT Core tool and the LAA tool, and both result in making the game unlaunchable. It will give me a Steam error code 51. The game has crashed 4 times on me, and it's not just crashing the game but my whole PC, so I really need this patch. Any help is much appreciated.

You have to use the FF13Fix (version 1.6.4) in addition to the 4GB patch and follow the instruction included in the FF13Fix readme. Applying the patch directly to the exe without using the FF13Fix results in what you are seeing.

The fix was the first thing I applied :(

There are specific instructions on how to get the 4GB patch to work with FF13Fix. You need to make an unaltered copy of "ffxiiiimg.exe" and rename it "untouched.exe", then you need to apply the 4GB patch to "ffxiiiimg.exe". Without the unmodified "untouched.exe" it will not work.

OH I thought the 'untouched.exe' was just an example naming for your backup copy. I didn't realise it was necessary! I'll give it another go, thanks!

YES! Thank you, mate!

I made this exact same mistake, thanks for clearing it up for me too MJB!

Do you know if the duplicate .exe is needed for XIII-2 as well (the readme only says to do it for XIII)?

You can apply the 4GB patch directly to the FF XIII-2 exe file without any special actions. The "untouched.exe" is required for XIII due to the Steam DRM that prevents an altered .exe file from running. This DRM was not put on the XIII-2 exe, so you can do whatever you want.

Much appriciated! I hadn't gotten to XIII-2 so wanted to see if I needed to repeat the process there. Thanks again, I made the same mistake as OP and thought that was just telling you to have a backup just in case.

I actually had to give up on this and buy the game for the PS3 in the end. There was a point a couple hours into the game that just kept crashing my whole PC.

@DarkEco, what card do you have? If you have a 5000 series AMD card, for example, 5700xt, the game will crash repeatedly in chapter 3. This is down to AMD's terrible dx9 support. There are some 'workarounds' but the game will run at 5-15 fps as a result.

I have an Nvidia. It's an older model though (970). It still holds up pretty well on most titles but the age might be a problem here.

I have the exact same card, so that isn't the issue. I definitely wouldn't recommend trying to do the absurd 8k shadows though with it.
