FFXIII/FFXIII-2 not detecting PS4 controller
This is a weird issue I've been having lately. Basically I had my PS4 controller working with these games a while ago and even installed PlayStation UI mods for them. But lately they just refuse to detect anything from my PS4 controller, except for skipping the Square Enix logo at the start. I've tried everything I can think of - different profiles in Big Picture, playing with and without FFXIII Fix, DS4Windows, disconnecting other controllers entirely (which work when they are connected) - but nothing is working. It's not a huge deal in the case of FFXIII, mostly just a preference. But my other main PC controller is a Wii U Pro Controller which uses the "Nintendo Layout" despite being interpreted as an Xbox 360 controller (i.e A is on the right instead of the bottom), which becomes a pain in games like FFXIII-2 where there are points where the game will display the button layout on screen for QTEs and the like, and I have to keep reminding myself A is on the right while the game tells me it's on the bottom.

Lightning Returns and any other Steam game I've played recently are all working fine with my PS4 controller, even showing PS4 UI in games with official support for it (like FFXV). So it's just an issue with these two games that came up all of a sudden.

For those games, when they start I have to go into the steam overlay and check the controller config. Doing that makes it so the controller is recognised and I can play fine with it, but I have to do it every time I start the games.

just out of curiosity, is your PS4 controller connected via bluetooth or USB?

Hello, I use ps4 controller and I don't have any issue with it. I don't use any software like DS4 since steam recognizes controllers.
My controller is connected via bluetooth to windows

Bluetooth in my case. I had it working before though without any issue, this only happened recently.

ah okay nevermind, becuase I on the FF13 wiki that wireless might sometimes cause issues but it seems it might not be the case here

not sure if you ever get that issue fix, mine just back to normal, and this is what i did.

at steam application, I unchecked all the controller then load the game (XIII) , using the keyboard command got into the game play, then exit out the game properly. close off the steam application, then restart the steam, turn on those controller (Dualshock 4 and general contrller) , after done all that, I just player the XIII for last 3 hours without any issue.

hope this gonna help you

Good Luck :)

I had the same issues and none of the advice provided on internet seemed to help.
In the end, what fixed it for me was to disconnect the Razer Tartarus gaming keyboard. Game seems to latch on it and expects input only from that device.
So, I'd advise to try and disconnect any other input devices and test again.

To add onto that, Razer Tartarus keypads generally do pick up as Xbox 360 controllers due to the joystick inputs that you can assign to it. On Steam general controller settings you can see what controllers are connected and if there is multiple remove them and then use the one you want. The game only seems to like the controller which is assigned as Player 1 and takes priority over other controller inputs.
