NEO OCHU!!!!!
Seriously how do you beat this guy?
Its not so much him as it is that damn screech move, and I dont even know what it is, is it elemental, physical, wind damage? And it hits so damn hard and frequentely.

Any advice on how to beat this guy, besides spam death?

Screech is piercing damage, which means it can only be reduced by Sentinel damage reduction. That means you're likely going to want Tortoise in order to tank Screech. Depending on your development, you might need to get into Tortoise early enough to use Mediguard/Steelguard/Elude before Screech hits.

Exact strategy will depend on your development, but the general idea is to avoid ever seeing Screech or Pollen with Picochus on the field. First clear out any Picochus that are there at the start of the fight, then build up Neochu's chain while you whittle down it's health over some number of cycles, then take advantage of that chain to kill Neochu during a cycle (likely extended by it using Seed Dispersal), then wipe out the newly summoned Picochus. At low enough development, you may wish to build up enough chain to stagger Neochu, but at anything close to postgame levels you shouldn't need more than 300%-400% chain. During the chain building process, it's best to take advantage of Neochu's extremely predictable attack cycle.

An alternative RNG strategy to Death is to use Random: Instant Chain in order to get a stagger. The flow of the fight is similar to that above, except you're waiting for R:IC to go off.

Yea I beat the lone one already in the trials, but he didn't have initial picochus (lol, really funny wording on squares part, good thing they made them different enough to not get sued) luckily its not them that's the hard part. I've found it easy enough to kill them just switch to infiltrators and spam debuffs on them to kill them faster, they can be tough without doing so.

I just figured it was a really hard optional battle, and to max out as much as possible. But after all these levels, 5 staring orphan, beating those two magic cieth on the mountain who are really tough, and farming adamantoises, I figured he wouldn't be so tough. But he's really hard.

The first one I beat, I got lucky, all I did was use all ravagers and spam the crap outa magic till he almost got staggered. He summoned those guys and I just said screw it and ignored them and kept spamming the magic and he died soon enough for me to mop up those lil guys, and just barely. But the one out in the field, he's not so easy cuz he starts out with the little guys. Its easier if you got tons of damage output to do a lone one the one with a group, yea I cant beat him at all so far.

Stack some +STR on Fang, open with a Haste-Bravera, and you should be able to wipe the opening Picos with a few Blitzes. Might want a SEN around so Fang doesn't get disrupted too much.

Yea I notice she has very high strengh, even without her third tier. I have light and snows 3rd tier but haven't upgraded fangs yet, probably should get around to doing that next.

If you want a last resort strategy, I believe Vanille's death spell works on Neo Ochu.

I feel like that's cheating.

Plus to get a good % success I'd have to get her staff to 3rd tier which I can't really do right now. I'm gonna beat all the other missions first then come back to this one.

By the time I get the xp egg it'll probably be useless tho.

Upgrading Vanille's Belladonna Wand (or any other weapon) has no effect on your chances of landing Death. It's going to be a 1% base, 2% if you inflict Imperil (the only debuff Neochu is vulnerable to), multiplied by the SAB role bonus.

Death spam is used because it's the only reasonable way to get Growth Egg as early as possible, but it's nothing like a high percentage per cast.

Yea that's kinda why I wanna do it legit, seems more frustrating than beating him down.
