FF13 Freezing PC with FULLSCREEN Option
Hello all! I played this game some years ago and everything was fine then. I have a new PC
i9 9900k, RTX 2080, 16 GB Ram, Windows 10 etc. A good build.

The game will only load in a small windowed mode. I tried 1920-1080 in windowed mode and it even locks up with that option. No matter which resolution I pick with full screen it freezes my PC and I have to restart. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!!!

Try to disable full-screen optimizations (right-click --> Properties --> Compatibility tab) for both the launcher and the game exe (ffxiiiimg.exe is located in <your Steam directory>\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIII\white_data\prog\win\bin folder), and you could also try Windows 7 or Windows 8 compatibility modes with the game exes, as well as run them as admin. You could also try copying the file d3d9.dll from C:\Windows\System32 to the same folder with ffxiiiimg.exe.

Awesome. I will try these once I get home. Thanks a million for your reply. I love this game and want it to run haha. I appreciate your time.

This worked, thanks a million.

And for anyone stuck while testing it, if like me it crashes buts keeps you from focusing on other windows still while its locked up. Try ctrl alt deleting and clicking the task manager option (or hit the windows key on keyboard, then type and open task manager there). Once task manager is open, and last tabbed too, wihle you can't click on it, just tap the down arrow key a few times as it's still active, once it goes down to selecting the final fantasy crashed copy. Hit delete, and that will kill it.
Good tip to know for this and a few other games that have similar issues.

Yeah, I can confirm this happens, the way I've found to fix it is creating an shortcut for the launcher with fullscreen optimizations disabled... but in this fix you still can`t launch it through steam.. I think most gamers will not know how to do this, and playing on windowed mode is really bad... I will try the solution above that says to copy d3d9.dll

I don`t know why but for me, on windows 11, the only thing that makes this game work is to make a shortcut for the launcher with fullscreen optimizations disabled
