Have you tried http://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/. Many gamers use it for games that don't come with extra wide screen, or triple screen support.

Pretty sure I'm using this on my 55 inch 4K TV.

That is not 21:9 ratio.

Yes it does. It is 100% a selectable option in the launcher....

Just because it's in the options doesn't mean it won't display the bars. It's no different then playing 4:3 games on 1080p monitors, you still get the bars.

The game was released WAY before 21:9 monitors were a thing. Considering it's a basic port, it's doubtful that they would add the necessary code to move the UI and to change the camera view.

If 21:9 is so important you better get that refund before it's too late.

You're missing the point. 4:3 games on a 1080p monitor arent 1920 x 1080. The mere fact it's a selectable option means that it infers that it's 21:9 as no other monitor besides a 3440 x 1440 monitor will display the correct amount of pixels. 3440 x 1440 regardless of the game's age infers wide screen. It's as simple as that.

Screen resolution and the games aspect ratio have always been seperate.
Think of every 1080p blu ray out there. If the movie is in 21:9. They don't say its less then 1080p. After all black pixels are still pixels.

Not the case. If the game lets me select 3440x1440 and there are black bars, then it is not 3440 x 1440 it's closer to 2560 x 1440. No resolution selection ever has said 'pick your resolution but be aware that it doesn't really matter what screen you are using'. The mere fact that you are defending this is confusing me. If 2560x1440 was my only option then I'd be happy with the bars as it makes technical and factual sense. 3440 x 1440 with black bars does not. Yes you are right with your 1080p comment but 1080p means nothing, it's what's in front of it that matters. Hence my 2560 x 1440 comment. 3440 is the length of my screen in pixels. The gaming industry can kiss my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ arse if advertising 3440 means they can display it at 2560 with bars and expect me to be happy with it. FFXIII does not have a selection that is height based. otherwise it would just have 720p 900p 1440p etc... It lets you select an x and y value.
