I understand too, but like you said I think in case of SE he is safe.

Worst thing he can expect is getting video's copyright flaged in which case SE or whoever copyright belongs to gain ad revenue.

But I doubt he even get that for this game. Maybe Tomb Raider but not FFXIII.

I got a copyright strike in the end. Square Enix didnt tell me why they coprighted it, they just copyrighted it, which is complete BS

............ please tell me you didn't dispute copyright flag because if you did then of course they win and get strike.

No.I monentzied the stream before I did it, thats all. I checked my emails as soon as I woke up this morning, which was like 5 mins ago, and there was a copyright claim against my FF 13 stream. I never dispute a copyright strike, I just accept them, and move on

After all, doing YouTube isnt always about the money, it's something I love to do, and if I can't monentize a certain game then thats ok, I wont monetize it, I will just stream Final Fantasy 13 for the fun of it :)

I'm going to assume you had ad income claimed by SE, not an actual copyright strike.

The first one sucks a little bit (also quite strange that you got, tbh. did you play other licensed music while streaming?), the second one sucks a LOT. Those are two very different things.

Still, I am suprised you got a strike at all. Didn't think Square Enix that strict but then again it's still in their right regardless.

I usually when I get video copyright flagged I tend to remove it out in editing software so I can avoid any problems with copyright, of course assuming if copyright claim is justified otherwise I would dispute it.

Yeah if it's just ad income claim then it's not a strike.

This might be a dumb question cuz I'm not really well known about this kind of thing, but if you post the video without monentizing it, and its basically free, can you post any video you want from a game or movie?

in response to your question Matt, when you monetize a video, you're basically earning money of the videos, but if you dont, then you are not earning money. if you post a clip on YouTube from a movie, but not monetize it, you will still have to say "This content is not my own. The content goes to the respectful owners" to avoid getting a legit copyright strike, and if you get three of them, then it is game over for your channel

It doesn't matter if you monetize it or not because as long something is copyrighted even a second of that can get flagged as copyright in which case 3 things could happen:

  1. Video gets flagged as result of containing copyright material (can be sound or video or both) and as result it gets all ad income to person who owns copyright (usually for entire video and doesn't matter if you monetize it or not it still will do that) and other revenue connected to that video
  2. Video gets take down (usually as result of DMCA which most likely will happen if you for exemple uploaded movie not to mention that people have to actually write DMCA notice for video getting takedown) and this can happen with games too which tends to happen with Nintendo games the most
  3. Get strike on your youtube account and if you get 3 you lose entire account and everything in it (2nd and 3rd can happen at same time).

As I understood strikes can disapear after time (correct me if I am wrong I haven't really checked indepth about this) but it's usually better to avoid this as much as it's possible because if you get 3 strikes for 3 different videos at same time then POOF no more youtube account.

In case of gameplays unless it's tranformative material then it might not be protected under fair use very much I am afraid in which case you can't even dispute copyright claims.

PS this is why I in end edit sound with something that is copyright free just so I can keep my video without been flag as copyrighted video also keep in mind if you decide to dispute video make damn sure you do that to only one because if for some odd reason you get strike because of it you won't start sweating over it because if you that happens to 3 videos then... well I don't need to tell you what happens when you get 3 strikes.

Btw this reminded me of funny story about one youtuber who made workaround for his videos so no one can get ad income of his videos despite using obvious copyrighted material:

I think it was this video that artical been based on:
