[FIXED!!!!] ReShade causing massive lag/framedrops in Inventory, how to fix?
OMG I FINALLY fixed it! :dbzk_db7:

SOLUTION

If anyone ever has this issue with TW3 + modern versions of ReShade:

ReShade (ingame) under the tab "Addons" had some sort of "Generic Depth Filter" activated, and **that is the culprit!**

Deactivate that thing, restart the game and all will be well, ReShade works, and no more framedrops/lag in inventory or when setting skills! =)

UPDATE

Through lots of annoying testing, I finally figured out that the massive, gamebreaking framedrops/lags in Inventory and on Character screen are somehow caused by ReShade, even with effects disabled... just as soon as ReShade is installed at all, this behaviour starts, and the only fix is to uninstall ReShade completely.

Never had this issue with the old 4.9.1 version of ReShade, but with the current 5.4.1 it happens everytime, and I also had issues with XCOM experiencing massive framedrops/lag to the point of being unplayable in certain situations.

So this issue is somehow caused by modern ReShade, does anyone here know what it might be or how to fix it?

Does TW3 need any special settings for ReShade?

This is completely new to me... I've played through TW3 on PC 6 times already and never once had this issue... it's the same install, same mods, zero changes between last playthrough which run perfectly and now, which has this massive gamebreaking framedrop issue:

Whenever I open my inventory, my FPS go down from 97 to 10 - 18 fps, which on a GSYNC monitor leads to the menu being basically a bunch of screenshots, super laggy and barely controllable/usable.

As I said, never had this before at all, and my last game was on 1.32 as well, so literally nothing changed, which means my mods are also not outdated.
My hardware is also still the exact same.

The only thing that changed are the Windows build version and the GPU driver version, that's it... so I'm really at my wits end on what this might be and how to fix it.

Everything else about the game runs just as fine as ever, it's just those two menus, Inventory and Character menu.

On Character menu, the framedrop happens when I press A on a Skill to set it into the skill tree on the right and only stops once I've finished that.

As soon as I no longer "hold" a skill on my cursor, the framerate immediately recovers back to 97 FPS.

On Inventory screen, the framerate tanks immediately and doesn't recover until I close the menu entirely.

Any help would be appreciated, if any of you have ANY idea what the cause might be of this suddenly changed behaviour...

Further testing reveals that on the Character menu screen, the slowdown happens once either I pick up a skill or I go to an empty slot and the tooltip appears.

Inventory lags constantly and without any trigger other than just having been opened.
Even tried manually and painfully (at 10 fps...) going through each section of inventory and scrolling all the way down, hoping it might help caching the items faster, but no dice... kept lagging like hell after that as well.

I just don't get it... last year, exact same install, exact same mods, exact same hardware, all was fine and dandy... now the game is basically unplayable due to this major issue. =(

Hypothesis:

I had Task Manager running on Resouce Monitoring while using those two menus, and what do I see?

As soon as I pick up a Skill in the Character menu, my GPU load drops to 0%... so the massive framedrop apparently happens because the game tells the GPU that it isn't needed anymore... WTF?!

In my driver settings, RTX 2080, I have already selected "Always prefer maximum power", so the GPU shouldn't have any cause to idle when actually being needed... I just don't get it.

Could this be a GPU driver bug?

Oh, and Win 10 Pro.

Could try updating your graphics drivers... Only thing i can think of u didnt do

Already were updated to the most recent driver... bit the bullet and re-installed TW3 completely fresh and clean and then went through the hassle of re-installing all of my mods.

And what do you know?
Now there are no more framedrops, just like before.

But the weirdness continues, because this is the exact same types, version and number of mods as I had installed before... truly confounding.

Bloody hell, it seems that it's ReShade... but I don't get why, it used to run perfectly before.

Guess there must be an issue with the newer ReShade versions... used to run fine with 4.9.1 before, but when I upgraded it to 5.4.1 that's when the framedrops started, and persisted even when toggling the effects off.

Sent a mail to the ReShade developer to report that bug, never got a reply... why do I even bother...
Just find your solution struggling with this since forever and now with FF VII Rebirth and this solve the issue to frop 10-15 fps enabling Reshade!! Altough sometimes starts to struggle again for some minutes and I enable and disable effects multiple times and suddenly starts to work fine again.

Thanks for this post!

Thanks for this post!

You’re welcome.

Also remember to set „Only load active effects“ after you’ve added and configured everything you want to use.
