Quest: Hard Times. Is it bugged?

The quest tells me to give a letter to a smith at Kaer Trolde but i can't talk to the guy for some reason, is there a way around this bug?

For those of you for which none of the above methods worked, just meditate till it's exactly 12 noon and then go talk to him. For me he's apparently available to trade/play Gwent with only at that hour.

Meditate to 14:00 and then it should work

I found a solid solution to this. I had read the letter and found the guy with the red bandanna but no option to speak to him was available. I waited until 9am the next day and all of a sudden the option appeared.

I'm confirming, that quest was bugged for me for a while, Iv' read the thread and meditating from morning to noon in front of him worked

this may be outdated, very late, but I ran into the issue August 16, 2020.

I believe the problem here is you have to speak to him during shop hours. I had to wait after 8 or 9am, even though the guy toils away there 24/7.
He must be indentured to the lord of the isle or whatever.

At first I was confused as to why this was a bug, but then something clicked when I noticed the time i could talk to him was around 8am.

The guy you want is likely there you simply can't interact with him.

The guy you want for this quest is the other Blacksmith up against the wall, he should have a red scarf around his neck. For me he needed to be working at the anvil for me to be able to talk to him.

For anyone else like me that got stuck here try advancing time until he's pounding on something at the anvil and then talking to him.

So actually the bug is a lot easier to get around, the quest marker just marks the wrong person. You need to talk to the guy with the dark red scarf in the same area (he didnt have to bang on an anvil or anything i just went straight over and spoke to him while he sat down near a wall) someone mentioned him in these comments so i tested it and sure enough the quest marker is just on the wrong guy, talk to all of them if you cant figure out who it is. Hope this helps people.

I know this thread is old but I can confirm this is not bugged, just needs a little work
- The Smith you want is the one with the Red Scarf and if he is sitting down, you will not proc the quest
- Meditate till about early afternoon, 1 or 2pm should do it. He will be working on the Anvil than.
- Once he is working on the Anvil, you can give him the letter.

Advance time till night he should be hammering then you can interact with him

just pass time 1 hour and you can talk to him. It seens the quest cannot be finished until you meditate/sleep
