Game Settings Resetting! Please I Need Help
Hey everyone,

I've been having an issue where my game settings keep resetting every time I launch the DirectX 11 version. Here's what I did:

In the launcher-configuration file, I modified it to launch the DirectX 11 version of the game due to crashes with DirectX 12. Here's a snippet of what I changed:

{ "revision": 3, "executables": [ { "description": "DirectX 12", "executable": { "directoryPath": "bin\\x64_dx12", "fileName": "witcher3.exe" } }, { "description": "DirectX 11", "executable": { "directoryPath": "bin\\x64", "fileName": "witcher3.exe" } } ], "gameId": "witcher3", "platform": "steam", "fallback": "DirectX 11", "editions": [ ] }

However, each time I launch the game through steam, I have to reconfigure graphics settings, resolution, and re-enable mods. Is there a way to prevent this reset and have the game retain my settings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

your graphics settings, resolution are stored in folder
Documents\The Witcher 3
in files
dx12user.settings or user.settings, input.settings, profile.settings

windows comes with default security settings. neither steam nor the game installer nor the game make any changes nor bypass whatever antivirus, security settings, folder permissions, running programs you have on your system. up to YOU to manage all that for this game and any other game/app you install.

if these files are missing also besides no saves

check antivirus log? might be blocking game/game launcher.

check windows security/controlled folder access.
if on add exceptions for game launcher/game.

running Windows One Drive? One Drive moves the .settings/preference files to the one drive.
turn OFF one drive. uninstall it if not needed.

or if you need one drive, should be exclusion/exception option.
exclude the games Documents folder or tell one drive to leave a local copy of the files
details in the one drive user manual

mods? mods can cause all kinds of issues.
perhaps get the game running correctly without mods first.

I Went through the files and logs, the thing is, on dx12 version of the game, it retreives the game data, basically graphics settings, res and mods.

but on dx11 - it just goes default everytime i launch

on dx12 it reads dx12user.settings
on dx11 it reads user.settings

look in the files maybe user.settings is blank. or garbage

ran the game with the same modification you made to launcher-configuration.json about dx11. game is using/reading my dx11 settings.

I fixed the issue - had to change the read only status on the user settings ini file. i forgot i had the dx11 ini on read only, and i had to uncheck the read only status.
