I worked around this issue with DLSS 3 enabled by:
1) Disabling the G-Sync-compatible technology or the monitor's Adaptive VRR support and not forcing Nvidia Control Panel V-Sync with the 2160p@60Hz FreeSync monitor; or alternatively
2) Using my 1440p@165Hz G-Sync-capable monitor with G-Sync enabled + Nvidia Control Panel V-Sync.
Main in-game display and graphics settings (problematic scenario when the CTD from inventory issue occurs or doesn't):
- Ultra+ with full RT settings + DLSS 3
Here are the main specs of my system:
- i9-12900K (Hyper-Threading/Turbo boost on; stock settings)
- PRIME Z690-P D4 motherboard (Intel Z690 chipset, v.2212 BIOS)
- T-FORCE XTREEM ARGB WHITE 32GB DDR4 (2×16GB, dual-channel at 3600 MHz CL14 XMP)
- TUF GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC EDITION 12GB, stock clocks
- 1 x Samsung 500GB SSD 960 EVO NVMe M.2
- 2 x WD Blue 1TB SATA SSD
- 1 x TeamGroup MP33 M.2 PCIe 1TB SSD
- Corsair RM850x, 850W 80PLUS Gold power supply unit.
- TUF Gaming VG289Q 28″ IPS UltraHD (3840×2160) 60Hz 5ms FreeSync Monitor.
- ROG Swift PG279Q 27″ IPS QuadHD (2560 x 1440) 165Hz 4ms G-Sync Monitor.
- GeForce 527.56 and 528.02 drivers (tested with both versions): Prefer maximum performance (on a per-game profile basis); Shader Cache Size set to Unlimited (globally).
- I enable Resizable BAR.
- Windows 11 64-bit Pro edition (recent install), latest updates v22H2, High-performance power plan, HAGS & Game Mode are enabled, Game DVR & Game Bar features off, Control Flow Guard (CFG) off on a per-game basis, Hypervisor and Virtualization-based security are disabled.
- I don't install GIGABYTE or ASUS tools.
Sorry Didnt respond earlier cuz I was too lazy lmao.
Ive not had the issue too much since I updated my Drivers, it still happens after a longish play session though. No clue what the issue is, as ive said Im nearly 100% sure it is an engine issue as its done this in all their games (ive not played more than a few hours of witcher 1 so I cant talk about that) but TW2/TW3/Cyberpunk. Every single one does it at random. Cyberpunk was not bad though, id go 10 hours and get it, at that point idc).
I send a crash report every time it happens, and hopefully anyone who this happens to does. As well I know theyve addressed the issue like near launch, and when heart of stones came out. But still kinda happens to some.
I also sent reports, so I hope the devs will fix it eventually, at some point.
A lot of people think its due to many items in the inventory. That could add to it but im near 100% sure its an engine issue. When you open the inventory it always lags a bit.
we honestly might have the same monitor lol. I have those same specs for my monitor and its a 27 inch. Predator. I just have a meh pc, good cpu bad gpu only thing good about a 1070 now is the fact it has 8gb of vram so I can run ultra textures on anygame with pretty much no fps loss. And my cpu is a ryzen 7 4.5gh 8core, 16gb ddr4 1333 mhz ram, and a NVME thats 5gbps.
I know it isnt my pc, or I hope it isnt. I mean it could be a specific set of components that cause this issue but I doubt it as its in literally every one of their open world RPG games. I feel like anyone Ive asked has it happen at least rarely. Like just a handful of times during the 100+ hours.
Im fine with crashing every 4 hours. If I crash during a fight or right at the end, I just have this mod that has damage sliders, and I crank it up and insta kill it or at least get it to the HP i crashed out. Then turn it down to .80 damage which is 20% less dmg you do. I do this since I also have a mod that gives enemies 2.5x hp while on Death march so Im not repeating a fight I beat just due to a crash cuz im applying oils.
I doublt this will be fixed unless they find out whats wrong with the engine for this, itll likely always happen. I know back when hearts of stone game out, I saw post saying they "fixed" this issue, which it may have helped but its still here. But I noticed far more post back around the launch to the hearts of stone dlc, it had a major spike on that DLC release too.
BUT eyy EURO jank at its finest. I love euro jank though, theyre always special games and highly detailed/immersive due to how ambitious they are. LIke the Gothic makers, and elex/risen theyre all very detailed in like being immersive, and it makes the games hold up 20 years down the road. All cdpr games so far are like that (besides TW1, Like it isnt bad just very clunky but I love a lot of crpg aspects of it). Gosh I hope they make a good remaster of that game, and let you carry those saves to witcher 2 as well. Ive never beat it but if they remaster it with this games combat and systems ill love it. Hopefully they make alchemy more of a MUST as well at least on the harder settings.
its just dlss, theres no 2 or 3 or one
wth do we set it to??
Idk what version the game is for dlss, likely the most recent one.
it should just be DLSS you set it too. FSR is a different option im assuming, idr as I only checked for like 5 seconds since I recently got a 3060ti.
Most games itll just say "dlss" and or "DLAA" and nothing else. Aside from the quality settings. So just pick dlss if you have a nvidia card.
I know this is a rather old post by now, but I am dealing with the same thing as you guys, inventory-crash (I noticed that when it happens, then more often than not, it's when I want to switch out my equipped bomb type, then it crashes the moment I drop another bomb type to the slot).
Did you ever find a permanent solution to this danm issue?
Also, I have to ask you, what do mean when you say "DLSS 3" so specifically?! Did you swap the DLSS files in the game directory out with another version or something?
Or by "DLSS 3", do you then actually mean to say "Frame Generation"?
Because Frame Generation is one individual thing, and DLSS 3 is another. They're not tied together in more than a single way, which is that in order to actually implement Frame Generation and utilize it in a game, that game also has to support DLSS 3.1.1.0 or above, but it does not need to be enabled however.
Hi,
I had the same issue with crashing during switching items in inventory and disabled HairWorks solved the issue. The mods which disabled HW just on Gerald also worked great to solve it (in my case)
I still crash randomly when playing on Dx12. So maybe it's that?
Dont know, I think my issue stopped when I switched to a 3060ti.
this first happened whit Keira in the first mission in the tunels wen i applied oil to my sword to fight necrophage, i am gaming on new hardware on dx12 whit full rays
anyways i imagine there not gona be anything done about this
