Why did they make healing so hard?
I play on blood and broken bones, always have. I also haven't played this game in 5+ years. Aside from never being able to regain health from meditating. I now can only heal from food or beverage, where as drink and food were 2 different healing; and Guen shield with +3 into the hold shield for health on attack, has been nerfed tremendously. I heal less with full stamina used on a healing quen shield than the damage that enemy can take off me ...

My question is, how am I suppose to heal now without waiting 3+ minutes starring at my screen letting 1 health item heal me. There is swallow, but that's limited. Does healing revolve all around how many uses of swallow you have left before needing to meditate? 0 swallow left better meditate? Or wait a stupid amount of time letting food / beverage heal you from almost dead to full.

And at level 4 when there's only swallow, everything is level 9+ and hits take 20% off. I need to horde alcohol so I can use swallow and meditate when the 3 are out. If there's more healing later on then Ill have to wait till I find it. At the moment healing is absurd.

I like keeping the Troll decoction on as it gives me constant health(vitality) recovery in and out of combat, and then use swallow and food/drink to heal otherwise in combat, only have to meditate once the troll decoction wears off or I run out of swallow.

If you are struggling so much, you should 1 - pick the perk that restores your health upon death if you have adrenaline. 2 - work on improving your skills in the game. You should not be having so much difficulty with it since the game is not really that hard. Dodge better, use quen if you need it, do parries and riposte, use bombs. And 3 - you should check you build. If you are having so many issues, maybe you need to improve your overall build. There are perks that enhance potion effects and how many you can take and such. Also maybe you are not doing as much damage as you can. And well, check your armor too. Are you using the best one you can get?

I think my main problem is being used to FromSoftware games. Combat is severely lacking, getting better. I was level 3, now 5, when I first had healing problems. I just need to get better on broken bones. I dont want to search where certain items are; i enjoy finding them. Guess I was surprised that quen heal was nerfed, didn't think that would happen in a game like this lol. Thanks for the tips

They re-balanced quite a few things and also nerfed some very OP perks when next gen was released. But there are still quite powerful perks there and you can make very OP builds that makes you almost invincible.
I also get you about the FromSoft games. After playing Elden Ring for a few hundred hours and coming back to TW3, I had very different impression of the combat compared to that. However you get used it after some time.
Also, I already mentioned it, but check out alchemy perks. There are some that enhance any potions by a lot and in particular, refreshment heals your for 30% of your total health every time you drink any potion. There are also perks give you defense bonus with you use an oil.

Aside from playing better, yeah, Gourmet ability is a must if you want to take your time and explore most of the game early on.
White Rafford's Decoction (Superior)
25/100 toxicity

Heal 100% instantly and give you 3 seconds taking no damage

Don't remember what the two lower levels get you but I think it's 30% heal an 1 second no damage you get only 1 and 60% heal and 2 second no damage and you get two and superior is 100% heal 3 seconds no damage and you get 3

They nice thing about it is unlike Swallow which gives you a set number of health points that get more and more worthless as you level up it works as a percentage of total health.

I think you can get the basic recipe from Keira who has several recipes that are worth buying, just remember to do it before you end her quest line

Try Troll + Ekhidna + Ekimmara dectotion if you want unlimited health, or you can just use Troll Dectotion, it regens you inside & outside battle

White Raffords is available, early on, if u have the spit an skill, try completing "Practicum in Advanced Alchemy" at lvl 3 it gives u access to Gremist, who sells a lot of "top end recipes".

You can also complete "Enchanting has a price" at level 2, allowing you access to enchanted gear almost from the start, of course, it do's require a "shed loada" cash though, nor easy to come by at level 2, unless you goto Skeligge, an raid the "Smugglers caches".

Theres a lot of quality gear in those cache's an expensive crafting ingredient's, it may take several hours though, to empty them all... Hahahahahaha

Then too, if u get into Toussant(Blood and Wine expansion), you gain access to more top tier recipes. I generally have access to Toussant Merchants, and Gremist an item enchantment, from level 9.....

In the interest of transparency, my game is slightly modded, none of the MODS affect game-play, that is entirely "game natural".

1 of the MODS allows me to wield any weapon, regardless of it's level, another MOD enables the DLC mission "Of Envoys an Wineboys" to be started as soon as u arrive at "Hanged Mans Tree" in Velen. (B4 I got this MOD, I had to go though the main quest line, to enable Envoys)

I also make use of the console, to give my self money(I see no need to be a broke Grandmaster witcher)

Also, it's entirely "game natural" to gain access to Skeligee, at level 3, all u gotta do, is have 1k gold then goto the Golden sturgeon, an pay the captain his 1k, an ya off to Skeligee, of course, u DO have to fight the pirates..

It's also entirely game natural, to start Enchantment has a price at level 2, since the quest becomes available as soon as u leave White Orchard, most people leave WO at level 3 or 4, but it is doable b4 level 3
