Inversing controls depending where you're looking while fighting for control from my mouse is just silly.
It goes beyond just combat-specific issues, though: Roach stops galloping/cantering on a whim if you're going through any sort of complex terrain, and sometimes takes several seconds to start going again. Getting off your horse is a quick affair when going fast, but if you're going slowly, Geralt will spend about 3 seconds getting off the horse and turning around. Combine those two, and you can have a comical farce where you gallop into battle, then dismount (likely because you couldn't hit anything with your sword switching around on you), but because you hit a tiny clod of dirt, Roach has slowed to a dead stop, and Geralt casually gets off his horse while three bandits slice into him.
I think there are problems with the physics engine as a whole, and Geralt's movement on the ground is not great either, but the horse controls and movement are just abysmal and really need to be patched. At the moment being on a horse is a severe liability in a combat situation, not because of the actual horse combat, but because of the unpredictability of the horse movement.
i agree , most of what you said is exactly what i'm experiencing
i do manage to fight a little on horseback due to the slow down when you hold the attack button
but its definitely not a polished feature
the reversal of the keys when you are looking back at the enemy you just passed is what completely kills it for me
i usually just dismount and dispatch the enemy on foot
i just finished the game
and i completely gave up on horseback fighting
racing is not as badly affected as fighting
you only concentrate on the next location rather than look behind you to see your opponent but if you did ,you will lose control over you horse as left turns into right and vise versa - i seriously have no explanation for that "feature"
since then a lot has happened but as you are asking the question in the middle of 2017
im guessing the answer is no
(altough i wouldn't know because i moved on since then)
