is it just me or are the horse controls horrible ?
instead of using the keyboard as the horse control and the mouse as the side and sword control
both the keyboard and the mouse control the movement of the horse
in addition when the camera turns the controls reverse themselves instead of staying left = left right = right and letting us handle the change

this feels disorienting to me

Seems fine on PS4. Sounds like it's designed for a controller. I really like i can keep following a road by simply holding x.

THIS. It's horrendous how they set up horse controls for k/b & mouse. Mount and blade had it perfect.

Inversing controls depending where you're looking while fighting for control from my mouse is just silly.

Oh my god they are so bad. The automatic sword side switching pretty much forces you to run around groups of enemies instead of through them (and it's not even based on which side you look on from my experience, it's just based on where your target is), and the reversal of directions when facing the camera is totally nonsensical.

It goes beyond just combat-specific issues, though: Roach stops galloping/cantering on a whim if you're going through any sort of complex terrain, and sometimes takes several seconds to start going again. Getting off your horse is a quick affair when going fast, but if you're going slowly, Geralt will spend about 3 seconds getting off the horse and turning around. Combine those two, and you can have a comical farce where you gallop into battle, then dismount (likely because you couldn't hit anything with your sword switching around on you), but because you hit a tiny clod of dirt, Roach has slowed to a dead stop, and Geralt casually gets off his horse while three bandits slice into him.

I think there are problems with the physics engine as a whole, and Geralt's movement on the ground is not great either, but the horse controls and movement are just abysmal and really need to be patched. At the moment being on a horse is a severe liability in a combat situation, not because of the actual horse combat, but because of the unpredictability of the horse movement.

I keep hearing how bad horse riding is, but I think it's just fine, no issues at all for me. Of course, I also hear you can't play with keyboard and mouse, but I have about 35 hrs now with only keyboard and mouse and no complaints.

In case people don't know this but if you hold down a attack button while on the horse time slows down until you let go. This helped me a LOT with horse combat.

I don't have many issues with horse controls on keyboard + mouse, won all the races so far. Gave up on horseback combat though, as it's easier to fight enemies on the ground anyways and not having to worry about spooking the horse. If you hold down shift the horse will just follow a path, though you might want to use wasd to make sure it goes the right way when the road splits. But I have to say, I'm enjoying horseriding. Most of the annoyance on horseback is with wanting to ride a steep cliff and then Roach just disagrees with that. Which is logical seeing as some of those cliffs are steep. Going uphill is easier, just spam space and he'll usually manage to get up.

Using 360 controller all controls are quite smooth and perfect, this coming from someone who played with nothing Keyboard and Mouse for 10 years or such,

i agree , most of what you said is exactly what i'm experiencing

i do manage to fight a little on horseback due to the slow down when you hold the attack button

but its definitely not a polished feature

the reversal of the keys when you are looking back at the enemy you just passed is what completely kills it for me

i usually just dismount and dispatch the enemy on foot

i just finished the game

and i completely gave up on horseback fighting

racing is not as badly affected as fighting
you only concentrate on the next location rather than look behind you to see your opponent but if you did ,you will lose control over you horse as left turns into right and vise versa - i seriously have no explanation for that "feature"

the combat controls work fine for me, I never use the targeting key Z since its pointless and only hinders me in combat

as an avid fan of mount and blade, i can say horseback riding in w3 is horrendous. Probably the only thing that sucks in the game, and maybe blocking maybe faster, not too much a problem but it gives controls a sluggish feeling which i hate.

No solutions just complaining, is there a MOD for this?

The complaining is from 2015 (if you didn't notice)
since then a lot has happened but as you are asking the question in the middle of 2017
im guessing the answer is no
(altough i wouldn't know because i moved on since then)
