Do you have to fast travel to get to other regions?
I prefer not to fast travel in open world games, so I can explore and discover along the way. Is there any way to not fast travel? The world map makes it look like you can't actually ride from one region to another and you can't even see a custom marker if it's in a different region. Even if it's technically possible, as a result of how markers work it's probably not very feasible. No loading screens was a selling point back in April that everyone was going on about, but I've seen plenty of loading screens between cutscenes, a forces fast travel, etc.

Well so far I can do either, so it would seem like a choice to use fast travel or...your feet (or horse). I like that you can whistle for your ride :)

You have to fast travel between regions it would seem. Really disappointing. I was expecting a single, seamless world. So unless the maps are completely inaccurate or something, each region seems to be a separate area. Considering that there were stories talking about the opposite being true circulating, this is a big bummer for me.

They are separate. But White Orchid is super small compared to the other three. Each region of the other 3 are big enough to encompass their own small game. Then again, White Orchid is a training tutorial area. You don't even get monster xp kills from there.

White Orchard could've been a demo for the game lol.

You don't get xp from any kills in the game, that's just the way it works. You only get it from completing events, quests, etc. If you get XP from killing, it's actually because you cleared an area, not because you killed stuff.

Yup, good amount of content to show off the game, not giving away enough of the plot

but we dont do demos no more

You should know that the Northern Kingdom is freaky big and every details you see on the screen are handcrafted beside the grasses. So there you go, if you give them ~5 years and a big budget then may be.

Lack of content isn't the issue.... if they had just pushed all of those areas into one seamless one that would be enough.

Sadly, yes. Demos don't exist anymore. I remember the JC2 demo, and when I used Bolopatch for unlimited time. Good times.

The problem is they really can't. In the Witcher universe, Skellige Islands are VERY far away from Velen or Novigrad, so it would literally take weeks or even months to sail there. Although I do agree that Velen and Novigrad could've been pushed next to each other.

Crossing a sea is one thing, I wouldn't mind "taking a ship" from one shore to another. But that isn't really an option, it's pretty much just "fast travel to the question location."
They could have done a lot more to make it feel like a single world.

Do you know how far is Novigrad is to Vizima? 2 cities on 2 different regions of the continent. How are you gonna push them into one seamless map while staying true to the witcher world? A small part of the Redania is so big already and now you want them to cover the entire route to Vizima too?

It's a game. Make it work. Or at least give more context for traveling.
Eurotruck sim does all of Europe without ACTUALLY doing all of Europe. A similar take to that would work well, IMO. Perfectly accurate to the original fiction isn't super important when it comes to the scale of the gameplay world in my opinion. It feels needlessly cut up.

Okay I do agree with this. Having Geralt get in a boat and then theres a loading screen, that'd be more immersive.
