TURN OFF NVIDIA HAIRWORKS
I got a GTX 780, 8GB 1600 RAM, FX8320 cpu, running on a SSD and Win 8.1 64bit.

I have everything on post processing maxed out or on and everything graphically on ultra (shadows on high), including HBAO+ and AA on. My game is getting a solid 50-60fps in combat, exploration, etc. I was getting ~30-40 fps with hairworks on. Turn it completely off, it honestly doesn't change the hair too much.

Yes, I have it maxed without hairworks and it runs amazingly. :bigups:

Yeah even CDPR said that HairWorks is quite taxing on your computer - if you don't desperately want it, turn it off.

Yep. Hairworks is this game's version of Ubersampling, except this time it provides a noticeable difference (IMO not noticeable enough to justify the performance hit though, unless you have a monster rig)

The issue with Hairworks is that it uses 8x MSAA I believe, to keep the hair looking smooth. I think it may be possible to lower it to 4x or even 2x using the ini files.

I tried this and with Titan X OCed by about 200Mhz.

Running 2560x1440.

With HBAO+, ULTRA, Hairworks - 55-65FPS.

With HBAO+, ULTRA, NO Hairworks - 70-85FPS.

WTF?

Why is Hairworks causing a loss of 15FPS on Titan X 2560x1440??

That is crazy for a minor effect.

my settings : everything maxed out except hairworks and how many trees there are , hairworks off , trees set to medium. Getting 70+ fps with gtx 970 and amd phenom II x4 965 at 3.8ghz

I will probably leave it on because I usually get the 60FPS needed, but my goodness!!

Trees, background, view, clutter etc all on ultra makes quite a big difference when looking into the horizons at far away mountains and cities/castles.

You are missing something there.

Hairworks -

not missing much.

HairWorks off, Post-Processing settings off, Graphics setting to Medium, Vsync ON, FPS option set to 60... yet get stuttering & 30-50FPS.. wtf.

GIGABYTE GTX770 OC 4G Edition

geralts hair has 70k to 150,000 tesselated strands of hair, monsters/npc range from 30k to 70k strands, all of it has forced MSAA. now add in multiple npcs and geralt to a scene. make sense why its a hit?

amount of strands is dynamic based on distance.

Disabling hairworks does ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it doesn't negate the fact the game was coded by a retarded monkey.

I can run Metro 2033 + LL at 100+fps @ 1440p, which mind you looks a fuktonne better than this game.

I was wondering why I lagged a bit in close ups of people with a 980 GTX -__- It's always something like this. You'd think NVIDIA..hairworks would not be such a performance hit to a NVIDIA 980....

...and serious physics, since they're attempting realistic-looking motion. That's a lot of math.

gtx 980 sli with everything on ultra chromatic aberration off and im getting smooth 60fps in 1080p but the kicker is the game is also using 65-80% gpu usage across both gpus so i would say its pretty taxing right now until they tweak it in patches... pretty rough for single gpu pcs. but then again at least they give you the option to disable it
