Running it on a 970m?
Hi,

To follow the current trend, how does it run on a laptop with a good cpu and a GTX 970m 3gb?
Only reason i'm asking is because i was contemplating getting the solid middle ground (between the 965m and the far more expensive 980m). And perhaps also because TW3 was included as a bonus that came with some 970m based laptops

my 870m is running it mixed mostly medium and low settings with very few high 1600x900 with a pretty disappointing frame rate. It's to be expected since it's mobile but I'm not sure how much more improved a 970m is

the 970m can be considered a significant improvement over the 870m from a technical perspective, but ti's hard to say how much that shows in TW3 i guess.

It should be possible, but -- as with all mobile setups,

1) thinner and lighter usually means hotter and more throttling, and
2) some laptops might see power-related throttling as well -- you'll need a decent PSU if both your GPU and CPU are fairly high-end.

im playing fully maxed 1080p on a gtx 860m with nvidia hair off shadows high and foliage range high with 25 fps average seems smooth to me so if u get it with same settings as me u should get over 30 fps and should beable to turn shadow and foliage up 1 to ultra the hair options destroys fps so idk how u would be with it on

running 970m on asus g751. Mid 40s FPS with some drops here and there depending on what is going on. On high settings

I'm running it with ultra-medium with 1336x768 resolution on a 960m. I don't drop below 40.

Should work just fine, I'm playing on Ultra with a 980M, and I've had zero issues with the FPS dropping (though my laptop is set to lock the FPS at 30 max to conserve power) and my fans have barely even kicked on at all.

The 970M isn't much lower than the 980M, you might not make it on Ultra, but it should run at least on High. Also, most laptops are only pushing 1080p, so much easier on the GPU than a higher resolution monitor.

Honestly, it works just fine on Medium using my old desktop with a 760 and an AMD FX 4100 in it, only a little bit of a frame drop in the first hour when they gryphon screamed at me, and that benchmarks considerably lower than anything with a 970M inside.

alright, thanks for the feedback. I wasn't expecting more than fluid gameplay on medium. But a game like TW3 looks quite good on medium anyway
