Game minimizes when starting.

The game worked fine, right up until i started changing settings.. then i backed out to apply them and the game minimizes, i then try and click on the witcher 3 icon and it goes in and minimizes.. i cant open the game for more than a sec any suggestions?

I also tried deleteing my settings in my documents to reset them but it still immediatly minimizes.

I was watching a buddy stream it and he had a similar issue. The game would minimize to desktop at random times. He can load up a game but after a few minutes it has minimized again.

i managed to fix it.. what i did was goto my documents and in my user settings i changed the fullscreen from 2 to 1, does full screen not work in this game? i think it originaly started the game in borderless full screen, then i put it into fullscreen and it started to do that minimizing thing.

Another thing i tried that has allowed me to keep it on fullscreen was delete all your user settings files in documents/witcher 3 then verify the game files on steam, now it doesnt crash the second it starts up.. acutally sometimes it does but for what ever reason if i restart my pc then start up the game it works fine.

Mine started minimizing when starting the game, after the newest patch.
Couldn't figure out why - used the search function and got here :D
Now it's working as intended again :)

After the last patch I was getting the same issue... I looked around in the ini files from bin/config but couldn't find a fullscreen= entry anywhere.

Changing it to 1 in the user.settings file fixed it, thanks again!

Started having this issue recently as well. While setting the .ini file manually to Borderless Fullscreen does work, if you're using G-Sync or SLI that might not be what you want, since they both require running the game in actual fullscreen.

It seems to me that the auto-minimising actually occurs due to some sort of display mode incompatibility. For me it started happening because I had overclocked my monitor's refresh rate to 75Hz. When I switched the refresh rate down 60Hz, I could run fullscreen properly again.

I updated to windows 10 and started having this issue. For me it wasn't great to use borderless even though it did fix the problem, because I have a 4K monitor and run W3 in 1080 for performance - so in borderless the game is a small window in the center of my screen.

After some troubleshooting I discovered that it was caused by other peripherals. In my case I had a Saitek X-55 HOTAS and a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick plugged in. Unplugging all these not only fixed my problem with W3 minimizing but also fixed an issue where Windows' screen saver would never come on.

For me the problem occurred when I switched to 4k monitor. Problem in my case was windows 10 scaling option in display settings. By default, windows detect 4k monitor and change the size of text, apps and other items from 100% to 150%.
Any other settings except 100% minimizes game to taskbar after approx 1sec, so basically everytime you want to play game in full screen mode, you have to change that settings to 100%.

That's what worked for me. :)
