Sure, they force labor on peasants and slavery is legal. I'd rather have that than subjecting towns and cities to mass genocides for the current scapegoat like you see practically everywhere in the north.
Radovid Kills every none human, while Emhyr treats them equaly.
Northerners are extremely racist. In addition, their culture and land are fragmented to an extreme degree. Even those who should be allies can't coexist, which ultimately just makes the war effort against Nilfgaard even more futile. If they had the engineering of the dwarves and the guerilla ingenious of the elves at their disposal, as well as the power of the mages, they could easily destroy Nilfgaard. But no, all of those people are prosecuted and burned in the name of religion, and the people go along with it because they're uneducated and easily manipulated.
In Nilfgaard, mages and nonhumans are free to roam. They are mostly nonviolent, as long as countries they invade agree to accumulate their language. The biggest gnomish city in the witcher world is in Nilfgaard, for example. As long as you don't ♥♥♥♥ with them, Nilfgaard isn't that bad. Nilfgaardians are also educated, which gives them the appearance of being arrogant in comparison to the average northerner citizen, but most of them are fair people who prioritize order above all else. I would rather have limited freedom that's actually freedom than the illusion of freedom that amounts to no freedom at all.
Under Foltest, I might have sided with the North, but considering it's current state, it's Nilfgaard all the way for me as it currently stands.
Nilfs actually restore north. Isn't prosperity the point?
