About them mages...
So we get to see a lot of powerful sorcresses in W3. What happened to the mages?? Did they just all became weak all of a sudden? I mean in W2 you had Dethmold who kicked ass even though he is a bad guy. Are male magic users less well versed in the use of the source? Also, no spoilers please. Maybe I just havent met a powerful male mage yet. (the elven mage doesnt count. he aint human.

There is not that many male mages due to their institution being eradicated. And lodge created afterwards is female-only.

Sorcerers appear to simply be less common than Sorceresses, this is also true in the books, although doesn't necessarily hold true for other spellcasters (Druids, for example, are often male). Whilst it's not specifically addressed, there is a part of The Last Wish that might explain it:

In short, most Sorceresses are ugly/deformed when they go for training at, say, Thanaedd. This is because education there is expensive and ergo they're largely drawn from the upper classes. In a traditional late-medieval northern european feudal society, there's limited use for an ugly daughter since her marriage prospects are low. An ugly son, however, is less hindered and can either marry down far enough to overcome his looks or serve in the military.

Again, it's not specifically stated that this is why, but it does work as an explanation.

And incase anyone's interested, Yennifer was a hunchback.

Edit:
R.E. what Coin said, the Brotherhood of Sorcerers, despite the name, wasn't a gender-exclusive organisation like the Lodge of Sorceresses.

It wasn't, however later on lodge was created and it was female-only, and there was no male variation of it.

Theres several mage schools though. destroying one doesnt mean they suddenly become rare.

It's only in the North, you meet one particularly powerful Kovir male mage in one quest.

You also meet Avallach and Karadin who are particularly powerful. If the Sorceresses can teleport no more than 2 people (Yen claimed so when she helped Rita escape) Karadin could teleport an entire ship with a full company of Wild Hunt and the Kovir mage can teleport an entire tower. You also saw that Karadin totally overpowered Yen magic barrier in battle of Kaer Modhen.

Some books in the game say that the Academy of Aretuza is more prestigious then the one of Ban Ard and sorceresses are generally more powerful then sorcerers. Although there are many strong mages as well, for example Dethmold who fought Philippa Eilhart during the battle of Vergen. And she is considered to be the most powerful and talented magic user of the North if not of the entire Continent.
There is also Carduin, the potential head of the new Conclave... You can meet him in the third part of the game depending on your choices in the second one.
In my opinion, magic power and talent don't depend on sex. We know many famous and powerful sorceresses because they often try to rule the world. And the majority of sorcerers just sit in their towers creating new spells, inventing new methods of curing different diseases, although there are some exceptions. And try to count how many times you have seen a fighting sorceress and how many times you've seen a sorcerer in such situation. Men are more common to be battle mages and these individuals are very dangerous.
