Anyone know how many places of power there actually are?

I've found numbers as low as 12 and as high as 25 on the web. I know the first one is wrong - I've found 20 so far. But I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any more?

So far, I've found all the ones that you encounter (only?) during quests up to the third act and through the the tree in the third act.

Maybe about 15-25.
And some are in the Main Quest, 1 pass only.

There's an achievement for getting them all so at least you'll know when / if you get there.

Sorry, I don't know how many there actually are, and didn't get them all yet.

I am pretty sure I found all of them, so lets see.
I am level 34 with 60 skill points.
60 - 33 = 27 - 2 (acorn) = 25
Pretty sure there are 25 places of power.

6 in White Orchard.
0 in Vizima.
8 in Novigrad/No Mans Land.
9 in Skellige.
1 in Kaer Morhein
1 when travelling between worlds late in the game.

If I remember correctly, all but 4 can be accessed without related quests, but 4 are locked behind quests, primary or secondary.

Of those:
1 is in the cellar during the Cerys line.
1 is when exploring ruins with Phillipa.
1 is while traveling worlds.
1 is on Bald Mountain.

Thanks for that; I was trying to figure out if I had missed any before heading off to the final missions. At this moment I have 23 (I miss counted above when counting skill points and didn't count the "genera" tree): 6 in White Orchard, 8 in Novigrad/Velen, and 8 in Skellige. You mentioned a ninth one in Skellige (and I have the one with Cerys)... is one of the ones in Skellige related to one of the other quests?

I don't know how far you are.
The one you get investigating ruins with Phillipa is indeed in Skellige.

There may be more than the ones I have listed, but I don't think so, I was pretty thorough in my playthrough.

There is an easy quest you can do to get directions to the rest.
It involves some divination magic and does require you to gather some things first.

gather a mouse, a keyboard, a monitor, PC and internet connection. Use the incantation "Google" and "Witcher 3 all places of power
