This is NOT a Role Playing Game....
unless the only Role I can play is as Geralt....

First, as an action/acventure game, this game is pretty fun. Although the world starts to feel very empty after a while. I don't really understand what the draw is to a game where you have to have a different person craft everything for you, except potions, which you will very rarely use.

The combat "system" is an absolute nightmare. The "AI" used for the targeting loves to make decisions for you, like using IGNI on the one animal that is furthest from the pack of animals you would like to use IGNI on, even though I am pushing the control pad in the diretion of the pack, and was facing the pack when I pushed the button for IGNI.

Second, the enemy AI is beyond garbage. They love to run away in the middle of a fight, back to their original "spawn" point, which triggers Geralt to put his sword away...which is awesome in combat.....

Also, when in forests the camera has a tendency to gravitate towards being behind foliage or tree trunks. Man, those leaves sure are rendered well, or would be if my P.C. could process the immense amount of useless detail within the game world.

That's my last point. If you don't have the best P.C., with top of the line everything, don't buy this game. It will not run well and will not be an enjoyable experience for you. I can see how, with the right P.C. this game would be funish, without the massive frame rate drops everytime there are more than one enemy or not on a road. But without the money to spend on a new GFX card I would not recommend this game to anyone.

That's my two cents. Time to sit here and hope Batman:Arkham Knights is better.

Wouldn't it be great if you could create reviews on Steam?

Because this thread leaves very little room for sensible discussion.

It is a role playing game where you role play as Geralt, yes
And I'll tell you something, it does a pretty fantastic job in doing so, I felt so attached to the character, no other game came this close

The game is an RPG no matter how blue in the face people will get trying to claim it isn't.

Half-Life 2 is a roleplaying game where you play the role of Gordon Freeman, professional monster slayer.

Really, The Witcher 3 is as action-adventure as you can get; the game is primarily composed of watching cutscenes and clicking things to death.

And here's the thing: it's good at that! And it's a good game! Just don't get something like this confused with Pillars of Eternity or Divinity: Original Sin, because they couldn't be any more different from W3's design ethos.

That is like saying Final Fantasy isn't an RPG because it didn't play like Baldurs Gate.

False equivalence; try again.

my gtx 660 is running the game just fine.

and your points are valid, but i think you're exagerrating them. i think the game's strengths vastly outweight the weaknesses you point out, but that's just me.

and i disagree about the combat. it's not revolutionary, but it's far from a "nightmare." it's servicable and keeps my on my toes. for an open world game like this thats all it needs to be.

Except its not. The game has plenty of RPG elements including character development and progression, loot, story decisions and a focus on setting. It is an RPG.

Yes, because it has elements of an RPG, that totally makes it an RPG.

The mental calisthenics kids who somehow think "not being an RPG" is synonymous with "inferior game" is truly a joy to behold.

I simply do not understand your recalcitrance towards facts; what's with the offense of labeling this game what it is: an action game. Action games are awesome!

It's an rpg, it's a fact and it's a masterpiece.

I never said that second part...that is just your attempt at casually insulting me while acting like your not.

The fact is...it is an RPG. Sorry.

Yes, correctly labeling a game totally ruins sensible discussion. Got it.
