Of Dairy and Darkness Merchant Bug

I had accepted the Of Dairy and Darkness quest at some point in the game ( I think playing Gwent) and never bought any of Aeramas' things. Later in the game I went to complete the quest. I went to the abandonded manor, found the magic circle and a letter upstairs. I pulled the lever and a few seconds of dark ensued. I then went and interacted with the circle but it says I need a key. So I went back to the merchant as he was marked on my mini map as the quest objective. I got there and could not interact with him. Having this happen with the blacksmith in another town, I walked away, meditated, and came back. It worked but I neglected to buy the right artifact. Now when I go back to him ( where there is still an objective marker on my mini map) I cannot interact with him no matter how many times I try meditating. Any ideas why this is happening?

Many quests break if you do things in the wrong order. Even in the right order some quests are messed up, so either restart the game or wait for a possible patch to fix it.

I already saved and exited. Was about to post that it fixed the problem. Well...not fixed it, just let me talk to the merchant. Quest completed.
