wham-a-wham is some bs
Doesn't matter if I tell him I'm going to kill him or spare him, as soon as the conversation is over he starts punching, which one-shots me as quen doesn't last through dialogue.

Did you hit him before the dialog? That was my problem, loaded and just dodged until the dialog, you do not have to do any dmg at all for him to speak to you.

Oh right, well, as ever, the tried and true invocation of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it publically enabled me to get past him!

yeah, i tried like 4 times to kill him first but something happens like i get stuck on the big pot with a fire and he one hits me even at level 22 ;(
and its listed as a level 17 witcher contract... to fight a lvl 35 troll :l

Trolls are one of the easiest enemies in the game no matter the difficulty they only have 1 or 2 attacks which can't be interrupted. Its actually a LOT easier to interrupt their attacks (also dealing damage) then trying to dodge them.

Just attack wait for the block to go down and attack again. When he does a down swing you need to dodge.

Keep quen up just incase and replenish it if you do get hit, its really easy to abuse some monsters in this game.

Cycolopses are literally Quen and do a fast attack whirl spam and can kill then in 1 maybe 2 whirls.. with quen up their melee wont even interrupt the whirl. Fiends can be abused easy aswell, it's reasons like this why i don't like the combat in this game much. Whirl seems to be insanely OP vs a lot of enemies

Play on death march and you need to rely on cheese tactics and overuse of potions/signs - boring

play on normal and just go all out offense can still die but not in 2-5 hits.

The trouble with wham-a-wham is he's basically scripted to one shot you as far as I can tell. I finished my blood and bones playthrough and just started my death march one, so thanks for reminding me I have him to look forward to again I guess! :)

Edit: Quen works on him, obviously, but he doesn't leave much room for error. In hindsight what with the nature of his attacks I shoulda taken off my bear set and put on griffin.

Hey guys, found this literally by accident. If you tell Wham-a-wham that you'll let him go, he gives you the gold and silver. As soon as that happens, turn around and hit him with Aard or Igni or whatever you want to trigger his fight again. This will cause the quest to register it as a trophy hunt and you can still get all the loot you want off of him as well as the trophy for the quest. No, it's not completely morally right if you want to go down that path of play. But if you want the most loot this is the way to go

why would you ever want to kill him :steamsad: he's so cute :steamsad:

EDIT: this thread is from 2015 :D
