Silver.... they are related to wraiths...

silver sword is what Geralt automatically pulls out in my experience, so I would assume that's the right one. Also, even though they're elves which would be fought with steel, they're masqurading as wraiths in Geralt's world so Silver should be correct.

I'm pretty positive I fought Eredin with a silver sword, and I cut him up like butter.

Yes elves but in the Witcher world they appear as wraiths or demons etc so silver blade all the way

The game should automatically pull out the correct sword. But you fight them with the silver one. The Wild Hunt are elves but are considered wraiths for whatever reason.

you see that easily from their hp-bar (also the right sword is drawn automatically as mentioned before)

if it is red -> steel-sword
if it is white/silverish with red lines in it -> silver sword

also look enemies up in your bestiary ('B') to learn which race/species they belong to (oils and other weaknesses)

Alright thanks. I know the correct sword for the fight is pulled out automaticly but every now and then the game decides I should fight hand to hand. And whenever the wild hund shows up theres usually something happing that I'm paying attention to, combined with the way you fight with all the spinning it was hard to tell which one he was using.

I saw the hounds in the beastiary but not the actual soldiers (I might have just missed them). So I thought maybe they could be nonhumans that trained monsters (trolls seem like proof that some monsters could be trained). Anyway thanks again.

The more correct answer would be, from another world, so you use silver. In theory werewolves are aliens O.o

They are elves and bleed just like everyone else, as the game shows and is stated by W2 already.
