The King is Dead - No Black and White clothing

Yennifer asks you to wear black and white clothing, and says she packed some clothes for you. I picked them all up and no combination of them are in fact black and white.

I think unequipping your stuff is the solution, I tried that myself and got a "lovely" response.

I've been trying this quest, but I can't seem to locate the clothing in her room? Or, I can't access it. I'm guessing it's in a "sparkly" chest in the corner of the room, but there isn't an option to open it for me. Anyone?

Ok I invested some time on this, fkn immersion, Elihal has the "Elegant Courtier doublet" "Nilfgaardian trouser" and "Nilfgaardian boots". Wear that, she is gonna say that you look dashing. Travel to "Gate of the Hierarch" he is the merchant on that mini island. (wiki doesnt say his location)

This is strange, the clothes in Yennefer room worked for me.

I think I got this. Neither of the closes present in Yennefer's chest will do. The best solution is if you still have the same closes you wore in Vyzima when meeting the Emperor. But I really doubt someone still carries them around at that point. The solution I've used was to go back to Novigrad via fast travel and by myself some Nilfgaardian clothes from the same elven shopkeeper I bought the masks for a ball. In this occasion Yen tells something like "You look dashing!" I believe it's the best possible answer from her. Not sure, but I've heard it has some impact on romance with her. But I'm aiming for a threesome so I won't have any luck here anyway. :happymeat:

Use clothes you get from first emperor visit. In fact during that part of story you can just snatch all three sets on offer and store them for later. Both Triss & Yen dig that outfit. You can also buy it from cross-dresser merchant right outside Novigrad (SE corner I think). When I tried Skellige outfit to go with locals Yen was saying sg like we couldn't have looked more different :P So yeah I reloaded and ran back and changed quickly in case it mattered for beddingunicorning her (can't tell whether it did btw but total success).

I can't stand Yen, so I did the opposite of everything she told me to. She told me to wear nice clothes so I showed up naked. I drank every time someone offered even after Geralt (without my permission) promised he wouldn't. I faffed about when she told me to hurry. Every chance I got, I bickered and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, whined and moaned. Too bad none of that actually mattered as far as story goes, but it felt damned good. Too bad there's not an option to kill her or cause her to die, as she isn't any better than Sile or Phillipa.

I've done this quest twice, and had two different responses. I suspect the game locks in whichever tunic you put on first.
My first run I put on only the "black" tunic and got the "you look good" response. My second run I tried on the blue tunic, then switched to the black one and got the "you dressed yourself" response. Slightly buggy in my opinion.

I just tried it, and it seems that it is just as you said. The game "locks" your first outfit that you have chosen in, and you have to use that one to get the compliment. If you do not get a compliment, it means that you wore the wrong pants (which was the problem in my case). I just changed the pants to the one I put on first, and it worked.

I ran into a problem with this quest and I'm posting here for anyone else who might have the same issues:

I had visited the inn before doing the quest and had looted everything. I sold the clothes from the chest not knowing that they were needed. When I started to do the quest, I was directed to the chest to collect the clothes, but they obviously weren't there.

After looking up online I found this thread and I was worried that I did indeed need the specific set of clothes to complete the quest properly. But that was not the case. Not sure if it was always this way, or the game has been patched since this thread was posted.

I basically just used a set of formal wear from another quest that I was still holding on to. The clothes, in particular, were the doublet, boots, and trousers that you get from the Elf tailor outside of Novigrad. I put them on, making sure to remove my gloves, swords, and crossbow then went to see Yen. Even though I literally had "dressed myself", and was not using the clothes from the chest, I still got the "you look lovely" response.

Hopefully, this helps someone else who might get stuck (or think they are stuck).

Reloaded, and instead used the other pants from the chest (with the leg-wrapping thingees), and got the 'you look lovely' response.

So, yeah it can be done with clothes from the chest, maybe those getting wrong response are using the wrong pants?

This is the correct answer. No need to get other clothes -_- I got the 'you look lovely' response as well.

Just checked the wiki, and it says the same thing; the Elegant Skellige shirt (the black and gold one), and the Skellige breeches (the pair with the wrapping or whatever it is around the legs).

I just did the quest. Choose the dark color (looks like brown) from the clothes. Pay special attention to the pants. Choose the one with the ropes around it. If you choose the other pants, it will not work.
