Playing as Ciri
At what point in the game (how many hours in) does the Ciri character become playable? Can she be used from the get-go or only for a short, specific period or time (à la Catwoman in Arkham City)? Is it possible to use her for free roam play?

Also, are there any mods out yet to use said character for the entirety of the game, if that's not in fact possible by default...?

(thanks)

There is a mod where you can use console to type in commands. You just need to type Ciri and press enter to become Ciri, or Geralt to become Geralt, but when you're Ciri you cannt accept quests. Read the news on the News tab.

ciri is not a main playable character. you get her maybe 5-6 times for a total of perhaps an hour 2 or through flashbacks in very specific zones. no free roam.

Ah! So you can actually use her from the beginning, but quests won't work? If so, can you swap in and out of the two characters in order to progress through the game (i.e., use Ciri as a 'main' and Geralt when required)...?

Do Ciri's skills, stats and inventory differ from Geralt's?

you missed what he said.

you can CHEAT through the console to use ciri to kinda run around. she is NOT a fleshed out character you control.

geralt is the sole playable character as intended without the use of mods or the console. to try and use ciri is to risk breaking your game.

You really just get to play her for a little while at a time, you never get to roam free with her.

Ciri has stats and skills set in stone and has no inventory when you play her normally not sure about what happens via console. She can't use any items or open any menu but the world map and she auto-regens healths out of combat on every difficulty. Ciri can't riposte and she has an AoE teleportation attack instead of signs when you hold Q. The longer you hold it down the bigger the radius. Her dodge and rolls are teleports aswell.

Okay. I've checked out some YT vids and it seems the console code is kind of an ad hoc 're-skin' of Geralt -- Ciri skin and sounds (and 'some' abilities), but it's not her per se.

That is, it looks like a mod would be required to play as her proper, throughout the entirety of the game.

Raises the question: Why did they not allow said character to be playable in a more fleshed out fashion? Seems a waste to only have her as a cameo... especially given the titular character has been the focus for three games now.

because they decided to have geralt be the controllable character and then added just enough for ciri to be playable a few times to satisfy fans. but youre never satisfied, are you?

Seems like they added "just enough" to pave the way for either Ciri DLC or to test the waters for a 'Witcher 3.5' passed off as a Witcher 4.

As for "satisfied"; I've never played a Witcher game and simply found the overdose of Geralt-related media had pretty much 'spoilt' the character for me -- grizzly, irascible white guy on a blood hunt. How... enticing.

Hence why the other, more obscure character is rendered [somewhat] more appealing by default (she isn't even that aesthetically pleasing, with that ugly war wound across her mug). Kinda like the non Batman characters in the Batman games or the non Ryu / Scorpion characters in those applicable titles -- not everyone wants to follow the mindless herd and not everyone can draw an affinity to a cookie cutter gaming avatar.

obscure? there are many things you can say about ciri, but obscure is not one of them.

you do realize this is a game thats part of a massive story/world ? they didnt just make ♥♥♥♥ up for this game and made a generic gun ho action hero, geralt is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ geralt, he has more of a story than you or i do. same goes for ciri, they didnt add her as an afterthought as something that might be cool.

do you even know geralts motivation for what he does in this game?

The reason Ciri isn't playable is because these games are based off of books, and follow the story of Geralt, the main protagonist of the books. Ciri may be cool, but she's still a side-character. The reason she's playable is so that you don't have to sit through 20 minute cutscenes explaining why you're playing the game while you're playing the game. There's no need for her to be playable. There's no reason for her to be playable. It wouldn't make any sense for her to be playable, because it would completely ♥♥♥♥ up this 100+ hour story. That's why she's not playable. Because it would be dumb.

Post-game, maybe. During the story? If you have to ask why she's not playable, you obviously have no idea what you're doing in the game.

Ciri's segments were only made to move the plot along and to give it reason.

Except that Geralt isn't the main protagonist of the books. It's more like 45% his story, and 55% hers. And his story in the books revolves around doing pretty much what he does in W3- chasing her, and protecting her in various ways. Her story is that of the hero's journey.
This is her world, Geralt's just living in it. HE is the side character.
I too would love to see her get more playtime and screentime.

While the game focuses on her story, I would say that Geralt is often the preferred method of telling it.

Ciri is great, and I would for her to have a standalone game, but you seem to have ignored my main point which was that being able to play her in the Witcher 3 would make no sense and completely ruin the game as it is now. If we were to play Ciri more, the game would have to be entirely reworked.

I can understand that the main plot works fine as it is. But it seems to me that the OP was asking for DLC, side missions, etc., in addition to the very real possibility of W4: The Witcherette. I think that that's a great idea and completely workable.
