Someone please help me understand this game???
I started this game right when it was released and the whole inventory system just completely baffled me. I am the type of guy that love reading game manual and was extremely disappointed when I found out that the biggest open RPG world to date did not even come with a decent size manual. While the in-game tutorial is pretty in-depth, your not going to get the same explanation as you would from a manual.

I nearly had to take a break from this game because I was overburden and I didn't know what to sell and what to keep and without the 9999 mod, I would have had to take a break. I didn't like having those kind of mods cause it distract from the game but without a proper storage or bank, I really didn't have any choice especially when I am an armorer collector.

Now let get down to the point: I don't understand ALCHEMY, CRAFTING, LOOTS, ALCOHEST, MEDITATION, De-cotion/Mutagen ability, and the rest.

Here are my questions below and these are the reason why I'm struggling with the game, and since have taken a short break from it.

1. Alchemy

I just don't understand how Alchemy works in this game? It so different from past Witcher game, it so confusing. From what I read, you only use ingredients once for alchemy and once you have that potion, mutagen, oil, you never need it again but what I don't get is how do you know to sell those extra ingredients when you don't know what other blueprint is needed? Meaning are each ingredient for a specific diagram or can multiple diagram use the same ingredient, and if this is the case why would I ever sell my ingredients? I'm not going to get a notebook and note which ingredient is for which diagram because that is time consuming and not effective. So how do you know which ingredients to keep and which to sell?

A. Once you have a potion, are they unlimited? Is having 3 potions the max you can have after every time you meditate? Do you need Alcohest and alcohol (beer mug) thing for it to refill? Because if that is the case, I didn't have alcohest for the longest time and I can meditate as much as I want and the ingredient constantly refill. I don't like this system one bit but now I'm just trying to understand it. How come I don't need alcohest to refill my potion? What is it use for then? I'm playing on normal difficulty if that help.

B. Now if ingredients are only used once, how do you know which one to sale. Do you look at every single diagram you have under Alchemy to and take notes of which one is already use? There has to be an easier method.

2. Crafting

Same question as those about Alchemy. What to sell and what to keep? How can you sale things when you still haven't gotten every single crafting diagram out there?

3. De-cotion/Mutagen Ability

Which is better? Which do you guys prefer. Mutagen for de-cotion or for passive abilities?

Any help will be much appreciated!

You can create potions they go to refull if you meditate at alle.
Alcohest is need for normal potions like heal potion, damage potion, ....
with mutagens you can create powerfull absurds ( poisen your self if you use it)
you can use 3 potions and 1 Absurd , if they are empty use your meditation and they are back.
in time you get a lot of mutagens ( small) you can craft them to big ones.
if you craft one absurd it is unlimited in use you need just one craft for it.

Try it out craft some potions use it and meditate . you can change the potion for you playstyle there so many of that.

sry for my bad english

Can you tell me what to sell and what to keep? That is my biggest problem and frustration with the game. I don't know what to keep and what to sell?

1. after you brew a potion, you have a set of three that you can use whenever, and when you meditate, they will fill up to full with the use of an alcohol.

1b/2. Just hoard everything. they barely weigh anything, and you hardly need the cash except at really low levels.

3. you can only have at max, 4 mutagens, and maybe two decoctions active at once, just choose your favourites.
I never bother selling ingredients. You can get saddlebags for your horse to increase your maximum haul weight, and there's a merchant in Novigrad (where the King of the Beggars' lair is) that sells special saddlebags that can increase it significantly, so that all you have to worry about is selling any collected combat loot, books if you like, and junk loot.

As for question 3, I don't know what to say. Even though I collect all this crafting junk, I've rarely ever used any of that stuff (decoctions or potions) because I have been able to beat everything generally pretty easily through combat techniques, though I check every so often and craft them when I can just in case. It seems the decoctions are a good thing to go with though if you think you're going to have problems with some beastie. Eventually you'll have so many runes and mutagens that it kind of doesn't matter.

just sell weapons and armour. everything else is more use than gold.

Keep epic/rare/magical crafting materials.

Keep alcohol.

Sell everything you are not currently using except for trophies because they don't weigh much.

You aren't supposed to be looting 10lb axes that sell for 5 crowns or hording every armor you find. You don't even have a home. All your stuff rides on a horse.

Thing is mate, I never need alcohest to refill? I'm playing on normal difficulty.

If you use your special potions you'll refill with alcohest when you meditate, so it depends on how often you meditate and how often you use your potions. I've not once run out of alcohest though. By level 15 or so you'll find yourself using them less and less, or even not at all, especially on normal difficulty. Get the sun & stars perk early, because it regenerates health during the daytime, so you don't have to use much food or meditate or use potions like swallow that often.

What are special potion? Do you mean potion like Swallow and that one potion that slowly give you HP regeneration?
Any potion. If you use even one and then meditate, you'll use alcohest to replenish it. All food gives HP regeneration, so it's usually a better bet than using Swallow. However, Swallow is stronger, so early on when you're not so strong you might find yourself using it more.

Generally though, that sun and stars perk (don't forget to activate it by dragging it over to the diagram on the right in the levelup screen) and food are important ways to regen, aside from meditation itself.

As far as hoarding crafting materials I would just let them stack to 50 and then sold anything that I got beyond that. Never was short on any crafting materials (except for some rare herbs that you can buy from vendors) and still made some coin selling the 'extras'.

Witcher 3 is not an RPG and even if it was, it certainly wouldn't be "the biggest one" to date.

So the weight is base on how many items of each ingredient you have and not base on what slot it takes up? Man my thinking is way off now.
