Can you randomly encounter strong monsters?
Like fiends, ekimarra's, chorts, forktails, werewolves, etc. I've only killed one Chort and that was the contract one. It would be a shame if you couldn't randomly encounter these monsters in the wild because it would make the game boring once you do everything. :(

ive run into (from your list) forktails werewolves and fiends in the wild in velen only (not been to skellige yet) you gotta explore more even running through the woods can have you run into weird beasties like i ran into a lvl 20 leshen at lvl 8 lol on death march it didnt end well :P

yes. There are some Forktails and Fiends scattered about Velen and Skellige. Werewolves, probably not because there aren't too many of them and it tends to be a big deal when one shows up. I've encountered one vampire at random, I think, but no more chorts have showed up since I did the contract. However, I would be very surprised if some didn't show up.

Lol yes. There have been more than one monster that I've run into, and I save before I agro them, and give it like 10 or 15 goes. Usually get it down to half health and then get one shot lol. They are only level 22 monsters.

I runned into a Armored Crap Spider in a Forest, or better i wandered peacefully and suddenly it was behind me and attacked me, yeah beware i suppose every bigger Creature you killed in normal Quests can also then been possibily encountered in Wilderness... But the good Thing is they are weaker than the Variant you encountered in Contracts and Quests... ;)

Absolutely.

I ran into a wyvern that was significantly higher level than me, and extremely aggressive.

It ended up chasing me halfway across Velen before I got soldiers on a bridge to fight it so I could run.

I saw a monster flying around a hill once, silhouetted against the sky in the distance. I ran up to him and started attacking and he one-shotted me through a shield. Wasn't on my map and I didn't have a quest for him.

I came across the same leshen in a dense forest. This isn't the type of random encounter I'm talking about though. That leshen was placed there, it isn't a random encounter. So far everything I have came across are enemies that were placed there by the devs. The kind of random encounter I'm talking about is where your just roaming around and there would be a chance for a monster to spawn nearby.

I just fought that leshen. The leshen itself was a joke, I'm level 16 currently, but all the eff'ing wolves that pop up once you get him down to 1/2 life ... they were another story. I just spammed the leshen to kill him, fled and circled back to get the sh*t. Ef those wolves man!

I doubt it. If you run across stronger monsters, they're typically always guarding hidden treasure. I don't think the devs allowed strong monsters (chorts, demons (I wanna fight a hym) leshens etc. to spawn at random because the game isn't divided into zones by level and they probably thought it would be too punishing for new players to suddenly have a level 32 leshen spawn behind them and one-shot them. It's jarring enough as it is when you're running through Velen at level four at a level 15 Alghoul runs out and is just like "SURPRISE ♥♥♥♥♥!" and one-shots you cause you got too close to his treasure.

I do however think that it would be amazing if every so option a new super strong monster would spawn somewhere in the world and you could get a contract to hunt it down after you defeat the quest, just so there's a reason to keep playing post-story line.

Definitely. While exploring Velen, I quite often encounter "??? level" monsters. One day, I was like in the woods getting away after exploring a cavern.

I got out by another exit and I see something walking a bit slowly.

I close myself, and I realize it's some kind of humanoid-woodish-deer creature, with abnormally long legs. I try to close in further, see if I can fight it and add it to the bestiary. First time I saw an enemy with Interrogation dots instead of proper level number.

I started running away, and the creature started running after me. Things were already kind of dreadful when suddenly, something hits me from a distance and I suddenly lose like 2/3 of my Vitality. I was like "Sh**! sh**! sh**! I'ma die, I haven't even saved after looting the cave !!". And the creature was soo fast I thought I could never escape in time.

Eventually, I successfuly joined the main road and then realized it wasn't chasing me anymore.
So far (30ish hours), that's the most fearful experience I had in the game. Since then, I'm quite warry about venturing in woods by myself.

This smells like an awesome mod in the making

I've encountered forktails, basilisks, griffins and nightwraiths out in the wild, and I'm sure there are a lot more out there.
