True dat. Those people should spend some time swimming around Skellige under water to get an idea of how much territory there actually is.
The largest map ever made is in the game Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall at 62 393 square miles. Elder Scrolls Arena could be considered larger but is not actually measurable due to it's method of procedural generation. It is estimated at around 2 million square miles.
Maybe. Seems clear to me that the map was intended to be bigger though.
Thats simply not true - CDPR themselves have said the entire game is about 20-25% larger than skyrim but that is split into 2 large maps and a few smaller ones. No one single map is bigger than Skyrim...not that i am complaining or anything, but people keep saying things like that, that are just not the case...
Skyrim, Fort Dawnguard -> Winterhold : 8:00
W3 Velen/novigrad Nilfgaardian Camp -> Isolated hut : 6:20
Both games had troubles letting me just pass from one point to another, in skyrim it was mostly mountains so I had to use roads 80% of the time. After that I decided it was only fair if I mostly used roads in W3 and I did zigzaag a bit, however I was slowed by crossing rivers 2 times and some quest on a road was initiated lol, so I had to lose some time over there, if I didn't it would probably be 6:00. And I also forgot to mention, my horse in skyrim (or all horses I dunno) have unlimited sprint and you dont have to get off them to cross water (had to cross a small one, didnt delay at all)
Anyway, the conclusion is, http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/20616/the-witcher-3-map-size-is-at-least-3-5-times-larger-than-skyrim/
These statements are may as well be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, since the biggest zone in W3 is ~25% percent less than the world of skyrim.
And there you have it folks.
Though The Witcher 3 has never once felt bigger to Skyrim to me. Heck, Dragonage: IQ might even be bigger with the combined zones. Or maybe GW2.
Skillige is one of the 2 big maps i mentioned - the other is valen/novigrad...but its a little unfair to include all the water in between the islands as that is pretty much empty space bar some sunken tresures - and yeah when you take into account all the dungeons and crypts in Skyrim - some of which are pretty massive, both games end up being pretty huge...
In the end its just a silly pis**ng contest though :)
